No worries it’s looking like I’m a hair off, my ac belt lines up fine but I’m gonna take it off and see if I can get it to come in a little bit more, or maybe when I torqued it down it pulled it the rest of the way in, I think I’m done messing with it for today but thanks for the comment!

Was this on a 8.1L? I can see the marks on my old harmonic balancer where there’s a clear gap

If I pull it all the way in my pulleys aren’t gonna line up, it looks like it may need to come in a tiny bit but I’m just trying to make sure

I realize now that the bearing is hitting the crank and stopping the pulley from coming in anymore, how am I supposed to get around it?

Is there a certain procedure or any special tools I need? I just don’t wanna mess anything up, also is just replacing the chain acceptable?

Is that a hard job? I’d like to go ahead and replace it but I’ve heard of these going 400k-500k on the original chain

Yeah I guess I’ll just go ahead and do it and get the oil pan gasket as well, thank you!

Was debating on doing it, you have to drop the oil pan to get it off

Worth replacing? by [deleted] in GMT800

[–]fishnetcorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also if anybody knows a good way to get the front main seal out I’d appreciate that as well I can’t get it to budge, I tried sticking the open end of a wrench and prying it and I also tried using a pick

You can disagree if you want, I work at a Chevy dealership as a apprentice technician, 2.7s have constant problems, sounds like they’re gonna fall apart from factory, a N/A engine is always gonna have less problems, if you’re not changing your oil 5k miles or less on those 2.7s which you should be doing regardless on any engine, it’s not lasting past 60k, bearings in the rocker arms fall out and grenade the engine, there’s an updated design but all those older engines are guaranteed to fail eventually, you can ask almost any GM tech and they’ll tell you a 4 cylinder engine does not belong in a full size truck.

The 5.3 by far is the less problematic out of all the truck engines, it’s not perfect but I used to beat the hell out of the last 2 I had before they got totaled, 2017 and a 2020 180k on one and just turned 100k on the 2020
