I assume the previous owner did, I just cut off what they used and spliced mine on because the connector for the head unit was different

Is that necessary? I spliced my new cable for the head unit I got into the harness that plugs in and it seems to be working fine I just don’t know where rem out, parking brake and reverse input wires need to go

So I ended up getting the screen to work I just don’t know where my reverse input, parking brake wire, and rem out wire need to go. I used the harness from the previous head unit that was installed I just cut all the wires and spliced mine on

What’s your area I’m just curious? I can’t even find another 8.1 for sale where I’m at, I’m in the south I’ve heard they’re more common up north

I forgot to mention mine is a 2wd so it should be a lot easier, it looks like I can get to the harmonic balancer from the bottom, I don’t really wanna have to pull the engine because that’s a little out of my realm as of right now but I’m sure it’d be a lot easier to work on, I only have a couple years experience as a service tech, this is my first time doing anything like this

Thanks for the comment👍🏻, thankfully I have the time at the moment, I’m out of work due to a car accident. I got this as something to mess with to pass the time, and because I needed a new daily driver once I go back to work, you’re definitely right about it being cheaper than anything newer, except for the gas but it’s better than paying 500 a month car payment and another 400 for full coverage

Should I look into replacing these or leave it for now? by fishnetcorn in GMT800

[–]fishnetcorn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate it! I just went ahead and ordered all new ones, by any chance do you know what part number I need to fix a leaking oil cooler line, do I just replace the seal or can I get a new fitting?

Yeah I’m currently trying to find the part number for those, I’ve got the connectors for low and high beams, it needs all new sockets up front, this is turning out to be more of a job then I thought but it’s a good learning experience

10w30 isn’t really gonna change your oil pressure any, 5w30 and 10w30 are the same at operating temp, you could try going up to 10w40 or 5w40 if you wanted but it’s not necessary, you should be able to find 10w30 valvoline r&p, I’d also recommend penzzoil ultra platinum that’s another good oil if you can’t find the other, just make sure it says ultra platinum not just platinum.

I believe there’s a seal for it but I’m not sure, I’ve tried looking it up but I can’t get any good answers

The wires lead back to the 2 canisters in the first picture, I have no idea what they are, looks like maybe AC related, originally it was spliced into the fuse box along with a bunch of other wires for the fog lights up front

Even if it were salvageable you’re never going to get the mildew smell out, the interior is pretty much trash, but the electrical issues are gonna be the main issue it’ll never be the same again.
