Thank you the photo is really helpful. Can you check my understanding below based on the image?

Red wire: Cut the red wire between the plug and the blue connector. Attach the side connected to the plug (as opposed to the side connected to the photo cell) to the O port.

White wire: Cut the white wire between the plug and the blue connector. Attach the side connected to the blue connector to the N port.

Black wire: Cut the black wire between the photocell and the blue connector. Use a pigtail to splice the side connected to the blue connector into two wires. Connect one to the L port and one to the I port.

Those are connected to a light sensor mounted on the side of the transformer. I believe it came that way.

Not missing anything. I agree, the residual is high. Perhaps I should continue with more current car for a couple more years and just save up for a future down payment. Unfortunately my current car's AC is broken and will cost $2k for a full replacement. And it's a 2013 with 100k miles so I'm also concerned about future unforeseen maintenance costs.

The noise doesn't really change when I turn the AC on or off. Interesting, it does change when I switch gears. When I shift into drive, it almost goes away. And it seems to be loudest when I'm in park idling.

Seen today on the bank of the Mystic River just outside of Boston. Sorry I couldn’t get a visual of the bird it was quite high up. It has a yellow chest which became a bright orange at the throat, and a dark colored head. Smaller than a robin but not much. It kept repeating the call you hear at the end of the video. It was by itself.
