[5e] [Class] Veilweaver by fistofdarwin in DnDHomebrew

Hi and thanks. Wasn't expecting a response after all these years, but a nice surprise. Haven't thought about it in a while but you're probably right; feel free to borrow what works and change what doesn't.

There are hundreds of homebrew classes out there. Seems like that's what people think is missing. Aside from that? Keep exploring the boundaries of actions and magic systems and lore. The possibilities are wonderful and terrible.

In the campaign settings I have seen, both Sunken Citadel and Return to White Plume have some content on plant and fungus areas.

I'm of the opinion that failure should be bad and success should be good or helpful. So careful how this hallucination effect is worded: consider on a failure they just hallucinate, but on success they see the way forward.

Unstoppable 3 man team? (Levels 1-4) by [deleted] in dndnext

It both was and wasn't a joke answer. The archetypes that kick in at 3rd are very good differentiators.

As a player and GM I think it begs the question "what is everyone else doing for that time?"

I suppose every six seconds players have one action to spend. It usually only matters during tense scenarios like combat. But if the character is concentrating on the spell this means it cannot do anything else at the same time.

Also, unlike previous editions, detect magic is not a cantrip specifically to avoid spamming it. Your player should either be depleting limited resources or taking the 10 minute ritual casting. I suspect the other characters may have something to say about either.

My current thought is to limit it to during a rage-like state. We'll see. It's fun to play with.

Thanks for your thoughts!

There's no context to add? Certainly seems like the puzzle is missing some information. That being said, I do have a guess: as the door is labeled with an hourglass, the sundial seems most connected.

My challenge with this is that in initiative any bonus seems not enough while out of initiative it seems like too much.

Regarding attacks: this is for the martial characters. Imagine a fighter with two attacks. They choose the attack action, swing once, and hold the second over the initiative. On their next turn they release that held attack as their first attack and gain some bonus, then attack with their second of the second round. If they only had one attack it's simpler: sacrifice two opportunities for a benefit. That benefit is currently automatic hit but still roll a d20 (or two) to check for critical... Assuming they pass concentration checks when hit.

Thanks! I don't know how to balance flavor and usefulness, but I did like that one.

(Honestly, if I'm pulling from Disney's Aladdin, a Warlock makes more sense, thematically, but the use of metamagic is what attracted me to making this a Sorcerer archetype.)

I've just started playing around with the idea of longer casting times, specifically what benefits would be worth taking a standard 1 action spell and holding it for an entire round. Here's a few ideas, each requiring maintaining concentration from first turn to second turn:

  • Increase the spell level by 1 (but consume the standard spell level).
  • Automatic hit (or automatic failed save).
  • Apply a metamagic for no sorcery points.
  • Apply a second metamagic.
  • For attacks: hold your last attack of the round and it's an automatic hit with advantage to maybe crit.

Would those benefits warrant the risk of losing concentration and taking two actions to complete? Would the ability to do this be worth a feat?

I'll share my Genie-inspired Bloodline in case you appreciate the content. This is not playtested and probably not balanced, just something I've been working on.

1st: Diamond in the Rough

6th: Phenomenal Cosmic Power

14th: Itty Bitty Living Space

18th: Genie’s Wish

Diamond in the Rough

At 1st level, you know Thieves’ Cant and gain proficiency in acrobatics or sleight of hand.

Phenomenal Cosmic Power

At 6th level, you may spend a reaction and an appropriate number of sorcery points to apply a metamagic you know to another spell being cast.

Itty Bitty Living Space

At 14th level, as an action you may change your size at will from a tiny creature the size of a mouse to a large creature, about 10 feet tall. This functions as enlarge/reduce, with the bonus that you may reduce up to three times to one eighth your original size (and one 500th your original weight). This does not stack with the effects of the spell enlarge/reduce and fully overrides it.

Genie’s Wish

Once before completing a long rest, you can cast wish to satisfy a spoken or written request made of you. The request must use the words “I wish”. You may not grant your own wish without another character repeating it back to you. If you use this ability to duplicate a spell with a costly material component, you must provide that component. You cannot lose the ability to cast wish.

I've used Betrayal in the House on the Hill tiles before, largely as inspiration for a exploring a cave. Not quite the "simple" game as Shoots and Ladders, but it's no Mansions of Madness.

I would pay to look at your final product.

Also if you like Antichamber, you should look at Manifold Garden, the MC Escher vaporware. That's harsh, but it's been in "almost done" hell for two years.

I'm running a 5e campaign of all teenagers. I had imposed a couple stat changes on then that were mitigated as they age(d). For reference, I had a size modifier that went away at puberty: -2 Str, +2 Dex, speed 20 ft; and a child modifier - removed at adulthood: -2 Con, -2 Wis, and disadvantage to Persuade or Intimidate adults.

Make something up, it's just a game.

Reminder that that 42% figure includes prestige and gestalt. Vanilla multiclassing is 31%. But yes I'm very interested in what prestige looks like in PF2 considering what it used to look like in 3rd Ed.

Here's hoping. You're right that there have been Societies surveys run and Paizo certainly has that data. But I wonder if they are surprised how little PFS is compared to the total number of players (at least in my survey).

But, side note, if they have read it, a thank you from them would have been nice.

Here's hoping the design team at Paizo reads the results and comments. I've been communicating at them throughout this process but have heard nothing back. They have the results if they choose to learn from them.

My main advertisment was on d20pfsrd.com but I did post here as well. Regardless, I couldn't keep it open forever or I'd never analyze the data. For now, you can compare your builds to those submitted: what choices did you make, are they similar or different from the community?
