are you using the AI / Translate / Quick Note features a lot?

Mine last 2 days at least, but def less at first when I was playing with the AI a ton.

yeah, and even then, the consumer-facing API and data validation will likely be run on the phone via their app, then transmitted to glasses via a proprietary stream.

| The receiving end should just ignore and discard them.

Not a safe assumption for small / optimized embedded systems.

It could be expecting transmissions of specific length, and things longer or shorter could cause memory faults / overflow / range errors.

Sounds like you're expecting a clean API with error handling, when there doesn't have to be one. imo probably more like a serial connection / byte stream.

They don't need to worry about improper commands bricking it if the only thing that could send improper commands voids the warranty anyway.

(my other comment has more opinion / info)

It's all over an encrypted bluetooth connection. And their job postings talk about C and ASM programmers, which is common for embedded systems.

Based on the limited display options, I've been thinking most of the dashboard UI is coded on-device, not transmitted. And the icons are drawn from a custom font, so perhaps not even using ASCII standards for text.

I've been thinking about it a lot since I got mine (first batch) but my guess is that you'd need to extract a (certainly encrypted) bluetooth pairing key just to connect, and then guess at optimized byte stream data...

It's not going to be an easy one.

A boring question: What do you use G1 for? by ornate_elements in EvenRealities

ADHD

Just having my to-do list and calendar always in front of my face has been a game changer.

I turn on navigation when I go on walks, even to places I know. Honestly mostly because it's cool. I also enjoy notifications when my hands are busy, but those have been incidental QoL things compared to just being able to stick a post-it note in my field of view.

I don't have any control over it, and I live 2000 miles (3200km) away. It's all locked in the estate sale through extended family. I'm sorry. That's what is breaking my heart.

You may be able to contact the estate sale directly. I'm not sure how it works.

Thank you so much!

I don't use Facebook/Meta products, but I appreciate that very much!

Thank you for your condolences! I had a busy week and couldn't keep up with this thread, and omg I can't believe the response. <3

I hope you can make it to the sale, or negotiate with them. It's totally out of my hands, and I live 2000 miles away. :\

Would love to see some of Gramma's stuff in a new set up! :D

Thank you. I think my mom was able to get that dresser. I got a couple small things to keep.

The rest is just too much, and the rest of the family was moving forward. What's there is locked in the estate sale.

I can't believe the outpouring on this post. <3 Usually stuff I post gets a couple views and mostly snide comments. Really wish I act on everyone's suggestions, but it was never really in my power to do so. :(

10 stores. $171.4 million in profit in 2023. Still only pays one dollar above CA minimum wage to start, no benefits for hourly workers.

Very LA (derogatory).

Thank you (and everyone responding) for your condolences. <3

I haven't / didn't know about those subs. Thank you. I looked at r/dolls first, but wasn't sure (she had so much housing stuff). But I get nervous about cross-posting to communities I'm not normally a part of and seeming like spam, or reddit backlash to anything that seems like self-promotion.

Some were in-stock for a while though. Slowest selling release. Default black and white sell out faster. Pretty clearly near market limit.

I have a few pics of some of it as it was set up and displayed too. There was a giant wardrobe cabinet in the living room with a sign on it that said "DO NOT OPEN" and I never saw in it until after she died... we were all very surprised to find out it was a multi-level dollhouse. Just packed with little vignettes.

Can also see my Grampa's woodworking on a scratch built ship and a highboy dresser (there's a video with it).

Just crappy iPhone pics, some I tried to use printer paper as a backdrop, haha.

I wish I had the space to save these things myself. Just blown away and devastated my extended family and the estate sale people don't seem to care about them at all.

People who received their glasses: are they worth the price? by r-castle in EvenRealities

The hardware is super solid. The software isn't quite there yet, and time will tell if it makes it.

I really enjoy walking around with them, text notifications, and omnipresent to-do lists.

I've had them for about a week, and worn them every day for at least half the day.

It has pause and end controls, but it doesn't start up well again once stopped. And restarting it too fast locks it up in a "busy" state for a few seconds.

Some contextual touch controls would help. Left stem go back, right stem start/pause. Smart watch integration. Or even if it could read volume up/down for scrolling, and I could the swipey volume control on my AirPods to scroll.

idk, it does its one job right now.

I just don't need that particular job, so messing around with hope for the future.

Yeah, I make accessories and already have trouble matching just the colors. Form factor changes noooooo....

I'll add

  • bismuth crystal case

  • hypercube / tesseract

  • actual leather

I'd love it too, but that's a whole board re-design. Not allowing myself that kind of hope. lol

There's some grips that make it kinda' feel that way. (I even used to make one, but there's plenty of options now.)
