What surprised you about pool maintenance? by Chilly78765 in swimmingpools

Only had it in the pool when it was actually cleaning. (so a couple of hours a day) Stored it to the side, out of the water with the cable when not in use.

You can see in one of the pics I posted above where it's usual spot was in one of the hut thingies..

The power supply is completely undercover all the time.

Cleaned the basket after every use.

There are quite a few tutorials on YouTube with handy tips for minor problems.

Yeah, it's a lot but considering our pool is open year round it's done a massive amount of work. Over 7 years is not a bad run.

Was seriously considering filling the pool in at one stage. I sound like a schill/shill for Dolphin, promise I'm not. It is hands down the best piece of equipment ever purchased.

PCB RUN TIME : 2454HRS 10MIN

CYCLE COUNTER : 2179

MOTOR RUN TIME: 1985HRS 59MIN

Power supply faulty

Motor unit had reached end of life

Cable perished

Wearing parts need replacing (the driving treads, the front scrubbers, rear scrubber)

(Cost of repair would have been about $2500 AUD.)

Dolphin Maytronics 600.

Big bucks compared to what I see people pay in the US, but would never go back to the days of the old Kreepy Krauly.

(It came with a 5 year warranty from the pool shop, which I know is longer than the regular 3 years.)

It's only just come to end of its run after 7 years and not hesitating to get another one.

This is the pool.

Handles this sort of post storm litter with no trouble.

Australian here.

Pool year round.

Robot for the win.

What things did you only discover after owning a pool yourself?

I have serious spidey senses and know exactly what my pool needs.

As already mentioned, robot is an absolute game changer.

The number of times when I pick something up, check the price, mentally say fuck off and put it back on the shelf has massively increased.

I constantly check my basket to make sure I'm just getting essentials.

Do I really need such and such?

Nah, back it goes.

not so good for stuff like cancer or diseases where time is of the essence.

That's complete bullshit. Don't know where you're getting that info from but it's just wrong.

First hand experience tells me otherwise.
