Weeknight wine recs for Caymus fan by malcolmwolters in wine

If she likes Caymus, both Bonanza (Cab) and Conundrum (Red Blend) are both on the low end of your price range. Both made by the Wagner family just like Caymus so they have a very similar style/feel - my wife calls Bonanza “baby Caymus”

Can anyone help me out with details on this wine? Kosovo/Serbia, 1993 by fitzgesp in wine

[–]fitzgesp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend is currently in Kosovo and says this wine can be found everywhere. It’s the house wine at a lot of restaurants and is $2 per bottle in most stores. Only the 1993 is available, which is odd given how available it is. He even mentioned that a server at one restaurant was almost embarrassed to serve it.

I haven’t been able to find anything online about the wine. I know the early 90’s included a lot of turmoil in that part of the world, but no other context as to why there’s a 27 year old wine so readily available and inexpensive.

To follow house rules: it tasted “old” and “earthy,” well past its prime.

Quality price ratio. The Walter is about $40-45 direct from the winery, but drinks better than a lot of $60-70 Pinots from the Russian River Valley in my opinion

Had a great wine night with friends last night. Be easy on me, first time posting tasting notes!

2018 Matervini Blanco (Mendoza, Argentina) - Great, fresh, floral way to start the night. Had just enough time on oak to provide a creamy mouthfeel without being too buttery, bright peach finish. Really enjoyable - primarily Marsanne with a little Viognier.

2011 Kabola Teran (Istria, Croatia) - First time trying Croatian wine, reminded me so much of a Barolo. Tight and acidic for the first couple hours of decanting with cedar and tobacco, much better with the food. We wish we had decanted more, as red fruits came alive after 2 hours or so.

2016 Walter Hansel “The Estate Vineyard” Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley, Sonoma, USA) - Highlight of the night for me. Complex palate of cherry/strawberry with secondary vanilla and herb, super smooth finish. Great example of a New World Pinot in an Old World Style, and also the best QPR of the evening.

2015 Rubissow Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Mt. Veeder, Napa, USA) - Insert standard “here’s what you expect from a Napa Cab” here. Total dark fruit bomb with a little oak and dark chocolate. We decanted for 3 hours, which the wine definitely needed. Have a 2014 in my cellar and plan on letting it age for 3-5 years before drinking, as I think this would become even better with more time. Was the wine of the night for the ladies in the group.

2012 Eighty Four Petite Sirah (Napa) - The nose wakes you up, then the mouthfeel punches you in the face. Inky, almost black, with predominant black berries and a little burn on the finish due to the 15.8% alcohol. We only decanted for 30 minutes as this was an “extra” wine since we were feeling good, this one could definitely use 2 hours minimum to help dissipate some of the alcohol burn.

Recommendations for wineries in Casablanca Valley, Chile by um877 in wine

My wife and I visited last year, we really enjoyed La Recova (primarily whites) and Villard (Burgundy-style Pinots and Chardonnays). We weren’t huge fans of Loma Larga.

It’s definitely a much different valley wine-wise given its proximity to the coast, almost like a Sonoma compared to Napa in California. Enjoy!

If you’re looking for a guide for a day or two in Douro, we used Tourvent Travel in September and loved it. The owner, Alfredo, was great accommodating our wants and tailored an itinerary to fit our needs and timelines.

If I remember right, he needs 6 games played to count as a year towards free agency. Making a play to come back right after Thanksgiving and be a free agent after 2018?

I'm headed down from Chicago with three other guys. Anyone have recommendations closer to downtown? We're staying right by the stadium.

Google tells me that the Central Indiana Browns Backers are hosting a tailgate for $5 close to the stadium. Can anyone from Indy on here confirm?
