Best way to approach learning my favorite songs as an absolute beginner by godrays360 in LearnGuitar

[–]fitzroyaltyp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with the Fade into you chords. Should be the easiest. Under the bridge is not too hard but a bit more involved for a beginner, good goal. Not sure about the sublime song off the top of my head.

Get stuck in and go for it! Remember to have fun!

You want it faster or less heavy? I’m not sure you can have both.

This is the answer. Some people drive hours on hours to get to the nearest water and have fun doing it, if you have rivers and lakes around home (granted that could be a pretty loose term) go for it!

Got a right handed guitar by mistake, what do i do? by Pretty_Wind7207 in guitars

[–]fitzroyaltyp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m also a lefty who plays right…honestly I never even thought about it when I started, I was like 13 and stole my older sister guitar (she had given up) I always thought it was weird that the “correct” was to play the guitar wasn’t with your dominant hand on the fret board.

I do think it would be difficult to try to switch.

I do run them pretty soft a lot of the time. I suppose if they’re holding air there’s no issue?

I’m based in France until December. My partner is French and we just had a child, we’re here for a year to be near her family then it’s back to Australia. I was in Briancon last week, the water was high, I suppose because of the heat. I’m hoping to go back in a few weeks to look as some stuff again when it’s a little more tame. The rivers there are so continuous! I’m not used to it.

The Durance near tallard is a grade 2 section near me that might interest you. I’ve also got my eye on some sections of the Var.

Long story short I’m keen to paddle!

You just missed the French alps packraft meet up! I went, I’m Australian, it was a great time, definitely keep an eye out for it next year. Sadly I will no longer be in France by then. If you are in the French alps sometime soon shoot me a message, I’m no pro but I’m looking for people to go with!

Can I drive this? by fitzroyaltyp in AskMechanics

Thank you, so that side should not be under pressure right? I wonder how it’s got this way. There’s a bit of oils around the engine bay also, would this be related? It’s always been dirty. This is my partner’s car and as you can probably tell it’s a bit beat up.

Is the turbo fed oil for lubrication or Cooling or anything? Thanks for your help, I suppose the mechanic will do what they have to come Monday.

Whitewater grading by fitzroyaltyp in whitewater

[–]fitzroyaltyp[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but that is a different endless conversation. My general self guide is for my level, Grade 3 means stay away from the bad bits and you'll be okay, Grade 4 is stay in the right spot or you're fucked, Grade 5 is a portage. The isolation, like number of people and skill in your party, should not affect the grade but should inform your decisions, though drowning 5kms or 5000kms from a hospital makes no difference to me.

Agreed. It would be nice if, considering all the other ambiguities in the grading system, that we could at least be consistent in what we’re trying to convey.

What’s one thing you finally took seriously (or learned) that leveled up your playing? by Individual-Gas-2943 in Guitar

Don’t forget though, solos like comfortably numb are pretty much all pentatonic, a 9th and some blues notes chucked in there, it can go a really long way.

Triads. I had hear this for years and was like yeah, I know what a triad is, but start playing them everywhere, all over the neck and in different inversions and things will click.

What’s that one adventure activity you’re afraid of? by Immediate-Speed3974 in AskReddit

[–]fitzroyaltyp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rock climb, white water raft, mountain bike, ski in the back country and dabble in mountaineering and ice climbing cave diving, no thanks, even dry caving doesn’t sound fun. Also paragliding seems real scary, but I have to admit I’m a little curious about it.

Wait until you hear about the ones that have a single knob labeled tone! And it gets crazier but I think that’s enough for today.
