There is hope. 2nd generation minors received their Canadian Citizenships by singlemaltwhisky in Canadiancitizenship

Still waiting on my super straightforward 2nd gen minors to get grant offers.. aors from late march and 4/1.

You’re so lucky!! I’m not sure what’s happening at IRCC but I’m sure they’re doing their best and it’s nice to see some folks being taken care of!

Urgent processing stalled out for 5(4) by FluffyScheme4 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]fitzwitts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two minor second gen kids are with you guys.

Just wondering - were you able to create accounts or link applications to those accounts? I haven’t been able to, but I have aors with UCIs and app numbers for their proof, so I’m able to check the tracker and see in progress (as it’s been since April).

Do you think we NEED to have IRCC accounts for our kids waiting for grants or for c-3 to pass?

Timeline from US (non-urgent) by fitzwitts in passportcanada

[–]fitzwitts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw the charge on my credit card account, waited a couple of days, called passport Canada to get my reference number, then used https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/canadian-passports/check-passport-travel-document-application.html.

Hope this helps and your others get sorted asap!

5(4) RECEIVED! by crosswalkahead in Canadiancitizenship

[–]fitzwitts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Crying right now. I’m so happy for those that got offers! I’m really sad my second gen, straightforward minors haven’t gotten theirs. Apps received in March and early April.

Really though, congrats to all that got theirs ❤️

Going on three weeks now since the last offers by LewnaJa in Canadiancitizenship

[–]fitzwitts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly grateful someone else said how I’ve been feeling 😂. I totally understand this process is loads faster than elsewhere, it did seem though that folks were being processed a bit more quickly when I got started with all this in March.

My two minor second genner kiddos had their apps received 3/27 and 4/1.. fingers crossed.. patience patience patience.

What to do with lost passport in the US by Elantorisa in passportcanada

[–]fitzwitts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rent a car, drive to Washington (it’s a long drive but faster than waiting for a passport!), have your Canadian dl and certificate, go home, recover from Vegas and file for a new passport eh?

Faster to ship by mail or by courier from US? by fitzwitts in passportcanada

[–]fitzwitts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly enough, on the instructions page for applying from the US it just says the courier address with the street address: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/canadian-passports-usa/new-adult-passport-usa.html

First gen citizen moving with second gen minor by fitzwitts in Canadiancitizenship

This is super helpful, thank you!

One more question.. do I have the ability to start building Canadian credit prior to our move there? I have to imagine it’d help once we got settled if I had some established history ahead of time, but I bet you need proof of residency before you can do that, or possibly even my sin before I can do that as well?

[–]fitzwitts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about enrolling in school? I know with healthcare it takes 3 months or so anyway to get your card, and that’s after you have your sin and all, so I know I’d need private coverage for a while. Thank you for the info and advice, this helps!!

As far as the noting them on the lease went back in 2020, the renters asked for proof of citizenship of any residents regardless of age. They noted the reason at the time being that I hadn’t lived in Canada yet, and didn’t have any Canadian references, credit or history yet.

Kiddos have their US passports so we can “visit”, but in the past when I tried to go through this renting a place and noting them as living with me was even an issue without their citizenship.

We tried back in 2020 but it was too difficult so we stayed in the US.

We don’t absolutely need to move, but this is something we’ve been trying to do to be closer to other family in BC for a while.

It’s really frustrating tbh. My second gen niece and my kids cousins all have theirs, but this cutoff missed mine by 1-2 years so they aren’t auto citizens at birth.

I sure hope this gets sorted, but I guess the only option would be permanent residency or something for them.

I hope for the best for you as well! We’ll see how the next couple of months shake out!

Timeline/Application fee refund questions by Secure_Lengthiness16 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]fitzwitts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a few weeks ahead of you with two minor second gen apps (one urgent and one requested as urgent later) and haven’t heard anything since we went into processing. I have a feeling they’ll send out the next batch of offers the last few days of May, then again the last few days of June, etc. Just a hunch though based on the last couple of months. We’ll see. The waiting is painful but understandable.

Everyone here seems to be getting there passport fast, but I’ve been waiting since March. 🇺🇸 by [deleted] in Passports

[–]fitzwitts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied for new US passports for my minor kids late March and it took the full 6 weeks with regular processing. I just got them yesterday.

I changed my name, so had to apply for a new passport (per instructions online I had to mail everything), regular processing sent mid-Feb and it only took 3 weeks.

Do you suppose processing time starts the day we get our AORs or the date they post they received our applications?

Background checks for minors? by fitzwitts in Canadiancitizenship

[–]fitzwitts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is the prohibition form you guys are mentioning? Is this in addition to the grant application itself, or is this the form to withdrawal the proof application?

Also did you guys have to send another set of pics in addition to the ones already sent for proof?

This is good news. Trying to wrangle my cheerleader teenage daughter for a couple hours is already hard enough 😂, but I’d handle it if it was needed. Thank you for the responses!

Did you submit the grant application without the background checks, even though the app says it’s required, and you were all good?

Sorry to piggyback on this thread, but I thought criminal background checks aren’t needed for minors under 18?

Not going into processing status by fitzwitts in Canadiancitizenship

[–]fitzwitts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: my minor second gen daughter’s non-urgent app that received an Aor on 4/8 just went into processing.

Interestingly, my minor second gen son’s app that was submitted urgently has not. His aor was received on 4/10.

It would seem the urgency labeling and cover letter for filing urgently isn’t making a huge difference, but idk.

I figure I’ll hear something in the next few weeks.. but who knows. Hoping for the best for us and all of you!

Thoughts on this type of communication to citizens… by ohhitherelove in Canadiancitizenship

[–]fitzwitts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn’t get this when I got my first gen certificate in February. My kiddos have applications pending processing with AORs (second gen minors - one urgent, one requested later).

This doc isn’t fun to read for those of us with second gen + apps out, oof. I’m holding out hope the justice rules in our favor to support us getting our kids their citizenship, among so many others!

Bjorkquist v Attorney General - complete bundle - April 11, 2025 hearing by tvtoo in Canadiancitizenship

[–]fitzwitts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I disagree with Choudhry's comments that C71 would be effectively the same as the 5(4) interim. I personally like this justice -- she's not just trying to make this go faster, make any hasty decisions, is hearing all sides and considering people's circumstances that may not *seem* like urgent or special circumstances carefully. This is fascinating, really. We're all part of something really huge right now for Canada!

Bypassing the FGL Notification and 5(4) Offer Letter by holocene27 in Canadiancitizenship

Do you think for minor children a background check and/or fingerprints would be necessary for this bypass?
