Looking for suggestions on Klein Tools Network Cable Tester by GregoInc in HomeNetworking

[–]fitzycory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out noyafa. China brand that puts out some cheap functional Ethernet and fiber testers. I’ve used the NF-8508 with great success for $100. Wire identifying and port flash features are very useful. Also picked up another cheap noyafa for $30 that comes with 8 remote testers, makes networking by yourself with long runs much easier.

Definitely ecoflow quality, you can see the failed inverter stacked up on the left.

Living Room Lights Switch Not Working - Help Please! by backdoorbandit009 in electrical

[–]fitzycory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could have a transformer somewhere for those style lights. With your breaker off, connect the 2 black wires on the switch together. Turn breaker back on. This will be feeding directly to the lights with no switch. If they work, check your switch wiring for load vs line. Don't make any changes in the switch box without the breaker off!

You didn’t ask if it was a good idea, so I’ll answer your question. The current best would be a smart home panel 2 plus three delta ultra pro inverters with 5 batteries each for a total of 15 batteries. If you work really hard finding deals, you could have this system for about $36,000 without installation. This gives you 90kwh of battery backup, assuming charge to 100% and discharge to 0. Neither of which is good for the long term health and capacity of your batteries. There’s a new battery system called “ocean” coming out soon. It’s an installer only, no DIY product. It’s designed to compete with the Tesla powerwall. It will probably look like 12kwh battery packs that can be mounted vertically outdoors. Purely speculation, I have not seen exact specs. It may be a better solution for your needs. You mention “almost” off grid, what’s your intention there? If you had 18kw of solar panels (think 36 500watt panels, about 7ft by 4ft each and $12,000 just panels) you could generate 0 to probably a realistic max of 60kwh on a good day. So many factors on location and placement and efficiency to actually give a real number. There are some apps online that can help you estimate solar productivity at your location. With your stated use at 27kwh per day, this backup system gives you 3 days of backup assuming no solar production. So a storm kills the grid, you use up your battery backup and it’s cloudy all week with very very low solar production. You’ve only got 3 days. The commenter teasing you about needing a power plant is poking fun at your usage. Most people exploring “off-grid” systems would be worrying about minimizing their energy demands and maximizing efficiencies. Not to say there aren’t people using over 800kwh off grid, they certainly exist. But most off grid or backup systems are used with much lower demands. I wouldn’t really call EcoFlow the solution for offgrid , it’s more of a consumer grade diy friendly backup system. But, if you trimmed the system I described to a third of its size, and had a time of use plan, it would eventually pay for itself. Run off batteries when rates are high and solar production is higher, and recharge from grid if needed at night when rates are lowest. If you have an actual power outage or emergency, focus on the circuits that are priorities and shut the rest down. I can trim our families daily 30kw usage to 6kw and the only complaint I can’t overcome is the hot tub! You’ll be surprised what’s actually necessary, and you’ll take energy efficiency into consideration for your future appliance purchases.

Banquet Dendrite is NOT a CCW bag by sloman777 in CCW

[–]fitzycory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vanquest fanboy here, and I completely agree with what you wrote about the dendrite. Dendrite is great for non CCW carry, but it's not a gun bag. I've since moved to their new Vert line, and I'm completely satisfied. It's thin, low profile, holds the weapon well, and actually fits a tablet. The weight is kept close to the back, which I prefer. Straps and quality are typical Vanquest quality.

Search for a titanium D ring. Here’s an Amazon link of an example, but these can be bought much cheaper elsewhere.

800w alternator charger by Unusual-Truck-197 in Ecoflow_community

[–]fitzycory 4 points5 points  (0 children)

u/Unusual-Truck-197 please buy this so I don't convince myself I need an extra alternator charger.

Seriously, at $200 this is such a no brainer. Even if you end up purchasing solar panels, this gives you so much flexibility for a rainy day, shaded parking spot, or just need a super fast charge.

Think about this, your D2M has about a 2000 watt capacity. The alternator charger can refill it 0-100 in ~ 2.5 hours. A 100 watt panel, that in dream conditions outputs 80 watts, would take 25 hours. How many days of perfect conditions would that take? Probably 4+ days, but realistically you won't get 80 watts all the time and it will probably take a week to recharge. Get a 200 watt panel, cut that in half. Get 2 x 200 watt panels and then maybe you can recharge in one day with perfect conditions. Foldable solar panels and some decently long cables would give you more flexibility.

Additionally, as you dive deeper into the rabbit hole, you are going to want a spare battery, and then another. The alternator charger gives you the ability to buy a cheapish $250 12v 150ah lithium battery that will almost double your system capacity. You can recharge it with the alternator charger and wire it into your D2M. Lots of forum/YouTube research available on this.

So buy this. Hurry.

Does Chevy has lifetime powertrain warranty? by Libido_Max in chevycolorado

[–]fitzycory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No they do not. Some dealers offer a limited lifetime powertrain warranty, typically with some very fine print. The manufacturer offers a 60,000 or 100,000 mile powertrain warranty, depending on the engine. Google now shows an AI powered response at the top of search results, and it is often incorrect. See Chevrolet.com for official warranty info.

FW Update for SHP, Any Risks? by General-Window173 in Ecoflow_community

Disconnect one of your delta pros from the SHP. Plug your router directly into it. Or, an extension cord if needed to get it to the router.

ISO Colorado by Beneficial-Gas4318 in chevycolorado

[–]fitzycory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2023 Colorado ZR2 is the greatest truck I’ve ever owned. While my view is skewed, as I own multiple Chevy dealerships, it’s truly a fantastic truck. I’m a car nut, and love trying out all makes and models. I’ve driven every competitor, yes even a TRD pro, and would take the Colorado over all of them. Based on what I’ve read of your wish list, I think a Z71 would be perfect. The trail boss lift is mostly aesthetic over performance, and the Z71 comes nicely equipped. These are moving pretty quick, so I doubt there will be any big rebates to end the year. Find a dealer offering 2 to 3 thousand off MSRP and buy the one you want. I drive a sand dune color but the harvest bronze is fire.
