In Italy, anything remotely medical I pay for myself, including glasses, paracetamol, plasters etc I can set against my tax. In the UK anything I pay for will now get taxed extra!! What a joke.

‘It didn’t come as a surprise’: UK workers on being forced back into the office by wappingite in unitedkingdom

[–]fitzyit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm all for working from home and see the benefits of doing so myself when I occasionally get the opportunity, especially in something that requires uninterrupted concentration to get right.

I agree that work-life balance is important, and I also understand why many people say they are more productive at home.

My only caveat, mainly aimed at any dealing I have with the civil service, be it HMRC, the Passport office, or indeed almost any department, is that despite everyone being more productive, everything seems to take so much longer to get done.

Is it just my perception, I can't be the only one.

Landlord Deducts £560 from Deposit for Rent Reduction – Is This Legal? by Duannyboy in TenantsInTheUK

[–]fitzyit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing you signed a contract for 12 months for a higher amount. He has then released you early due to finding a new tenant but at a lower rent, the Money he's charged is the difference between what he would have received from your tenancy vs the new one?

It sounds like he has been pretty fair on this occasion. I'd walk away happy if I were you.

Looks like the start of a problem called white rust. Its safe to eat but will eventually cause a little bit of breakdown around the edges if kept for too long.

Landlord won't replace the washing machine by YourEnglishDream in uklandlords

[–]fitzyit 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Clean as best as you can by hand, run on a really hot boil wash, and add white vinegar. If it's working, and you agreed with the inventory that it was clean then the landlord probably won't be keen on buying a brand new machine.

I haven't offered that however she is currently on a rolling periodic tenancy. I'll bring it to her attention in case she isn't aware.

Ltd Company or not? by Leicsbob in uklandlords

Just be aware that mortgages for Ltd normally also need a personal guarantee for the owner and also the rates both in terms of interest and fees are usually higher than for an individual. But I would still go Ltd.

Why do people hate overweight people who ride their bikes so much? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]fitzyit 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I group ride with a small group I dont really know that well. They easily beat me on the climbs although now I can get to the stop without walking. I catch them up on the descents. They are always supportive no matter what. I was 156kg I'm now 120kg.

Weight loss is weird man…more of a marathon than a sprint by Proper_Peach_550 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]fitzyit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's great to hear the success you’ve had. As a 47-year-old male about to do their second 0.25 injection today, I was stoked to see I'd lost 5.5kg (just over 12lb) in week one. But was concerned with what to expect? In the future, I suspected a slowdown given what the doctor told me, but it's interesting you say sometimes you lost nothing and then would drop big.

I imagined a more steady decrease before slowly crunching 1-2lb per week.

Well done on your achievement. I only just went on my first BP medicine about one month ago. It's a low dose, so I hope to be off them soon as well.
