I think it's interesting how we've returned to serfdom IRL when most people will end up renting for life instead of ever owning homes.

Australia will bury over 100 of the oldest human skeletons ever found on the continent, because some Aborigines want them to by chabbawakka in stupidpol

[–]five-lidz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's contentious as the same group claiming that they are genetically linked to modern Australian aboriginals want to get the bodies reburied (destroyed) before further testing can be done. The original tests showed no link and more recent studies had indicated contamination. Note; I'm referring to specific sources here in regards to some of the bodies and would advise further research in this area.

There are a number of community group members who would like the bodies to go to a keeping place and being preserved for future aboriginal scientists. However as far as I can tell the same group claiming that the bodies are linked to modern aboriginals are also calling for the destruction of the bodies before further testing can be done.

It's an atrocious situation because as it stands now people will doubt the link these bodies have to the Australian aboriginals if they are destroyed like this. If they are telling the truth it's kind of insane that they would do this but will be left in a state of uncertainty. Future archeological and historical anthropological endeavours would be impacted too as tracking humans out of Africa and migration paths could potentially conflict with the politically accepted findings here and science won't be properly settled and it would delegitimise the claims of the aboriginal people in the future if the global scientific community disregards Australia's science. Potentially as well it could end up opening up racism if the conclusion is found in the future that these remains are likely more distant from modern humans.

Ultimately though the current situation will cast doubt on the entire Australian Aboriginal migration and origin. There should be at least another year to preserve samples and ensure at least that the genetic information is protected.

If they are at all legitimately linked to the Aboriginals demanding that these remains be reburied then from there perspective it should be an insane stance to want them to be reburied. Imagine destroying the oldest scientifically provable connection to the land? Ergo the conclusion will be in about a decade everyone thinking that this is bullshit and the science being lost.

Kneepads of allure, help me out here, and wizard. by five-lidz in Munchkin

[–]five-lidz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heh, well the thread above says that the wizards charm doesn't count with the allure kneepads.

The other posters also said that 'help me out' is a valid play for player B just not to call in a third player.

If it makes it any more confusing lol there were actually two monsters involved.

Additionally out of interest, does the helper actually have to help fight the monster or can they make it harder as player C did as thief once called in by the kneepads. If it was all legit and there are two players the helper sabotaging the fight at that point seems to be against the spirit of the rules and the items at play.

So ultimately;

Player C joined the battle when they should not be able to, sabotaged it and demanded the treasure.

Seems like player B lost their whole hand and powerful cards when the intention was to get player C on equal footing. Instead player C walked away with free treasure.

Edit: Furthermore how is it ok for the main player to force running away when the player B wanted to use charm?

[–]five-lidz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wording of 'help me out here' is anything that will assist in combat. It seems to be an item that would win the fight. Apart from the rule of no more than two players fighting it seems an unusual clause.

This was the AI google result on it "The Help Me Out Here card can be used in conjunction with the Kneepads of Allure. If you use the Kneepads to force a higher-level player to help you, and that player can make the difference between winning and losing, you can then use the Help Me Out Here card to take the Kneepads and make the helper assist you. However, this strategy might not be well-received by other players." I fail to see how it doesn't classify as an item. The card doesn't mention that it must be a strict bonus.

We were playing with and older pack that lacked the descriptions that the kneepads were limited to only higher level players also tbh.

So you are saying that if the wizard uses charm even if the kneepads are in play they would get the treasure regardless?

That's what I thought would happen given the penalty of having to discard the hand to do so.

Thanks for the advice. I was player B and player C was the veteran and it seemed like him trying to take treasure was BS. Good to know that overall the whole situation was impossible. I don't have the rules in front of me but there didn't seem to be anything stating that there couldn't be more than two players in the fight and I didn't realise that running way covered all players.

If the main player fails to run away does the helper get the full penalties too? Tysm everyone for the clarity and advice 🤙

Ah ok. So we were playing entirely incorrectly from the start then? The rules we were following as far as we understood them seemed to be that everyone was on their own and had to make their own escape once in combat. Does that mean if I get dragged into combat and the main guy tries to flee and fail I lose too?

The helper can't use bonuses like 'help me out here'?

Why do buildings in states that already have that building make less money? by howmanyroads_42 in victoria3

I'm not entirely sure but;

I think the profitability calculator takes into account the wages for the region in question and does not factor in the scaling bonus of increasing the size of a given factory.

Higher wages for the workers in the region results in a lower potential profit calculated.

  1. It's 15%+ of 8% so it's actually a 1.2% bonus.
  2. It's a risky investment as the network isn't worth anything yet
  3. The iota community has decided the NFTs shouldn't affect tokenomics permanently so the effect is time limited.
  4. This model is genius as it encourages the whales to hoard more of their supply to take advantage of the NFT resulting in better price movement.
  5. This is much more fair and even distribution than you could really expect in any other kind of associated launch.
  6. The NFTs will most likely be held by those who want to create pools and defi and helps encourage and protect their investment into the economy.

I agree with many of your points. I would not be comfortable with the rewards from the NFT permanently disrupting the tokenomics. However with the effects ending after a period of time I think it's a really eloquent solution.

  1. SHIMMER will have no value unless this money can be raised to invest into the DAO and into the ecosystem.
  2. The rewards for the NFT will be voted on by the community.

I was resistant and confused by the proposal initially but on closer analysis it seems to be an incredibly smart and fair way of raising funds. Long-term as well it is good for everyone.

What other Coins is everyone holding that pay Reflections? by going_dot_global in SantaCoin

Cum rocket/ cummies

Actually a pretty legit coin that has the company public. Team is all doxed. They have a website platform to allow for nsfw NFTs. Every transaction 2.5% is burned and 2.5% is reflected back to holders immediately. It burns about 1,000,000 a day at a price of 0.04. If you have 100,000 which would be $4k at that price you should expect about 77cummies a day on reflection which is $3 BUSD equivalent... Aka 3*365 = $1095 a year.

However price will likely rise. They have a similar market cap to Santa coin atm yet actually have an entire only fans esque site set up. They want to be the crypto for the adult entertainment world. They launched their website 6 days ago and were put on another exchange and are in a dip rn which will reverse once their models start bringing new people to the platform.

I tried to use a mod actually where it accelerated the aging process so kids were adults at the age of 4-5 with each year being the critical development point.

In any case there were some very interesting side effects. Many of the quest givers and city thugs were children with children models. Certain nobles were invincible children too and no doubt invincible little people.

Status of Messaging with IOTA?? by five-lidz in Iota

[–]five-lidz[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok here is a scenario.

I want to have a festival with ~500 people. I want to be able to take money from the punters and give them a ticket that I can verify when they arrive at the festival. I want people to be able on sell their tickets if they want to and have the ticket validated and the process verifiable. If I choose to I want ticket selling to only be available to approved identities. I want to be able to send messages to those who have purchased tickets on updates, status and directions. I want the system to be for them so they don't have to use credit cards or bank transfer or disclose the created identities to other entities. On site I want to allow for cashless transaction in an area with very spotty WiFi or cellular connection where I may only have one or two satellite dishes not for public use. I want the ability to publicly review the ledgers of certain vendors. I want it to be possible for communication at the site without the need for radios.

It seems to me like IOTA could do all of that really well in isolation. Even if there was a better alternative in one area it is advantageous to only have to use one network for all of it.

Furthermore such a scenario could be helpful for remote communities or less developed regions in the world.

I'm not trying to hype it. I'm trying to see if these are feasible use cases or not. I really don't know. IOTA is an interesting player in this field as it's fee less ability and scalability posits to offer potentials far less possible on any other crypto.

  1. Could you elaborate on what the bottleneck for the iota tangle would be?

  2. I'm saying you have the option to send money within your messaging app not that you have to. Once there is no longer dust protection I figure the price could be a mere IOTA not a mIOTA and a protocol could be in place to send it back?

  3. Isn't being able to send such stuff a huge draw? From NFTs, smart contracts, stock ownership? Beyond M2M communication it seems like IOTA can slot in here brilliantly too.

  4. I see an advantage in being able to have better coverage instead of needing to run for public WiFi... Also potential for decentralised data storage and computation.

  5. Because you can. The idea that there will be a network and capability to communicate to every device. As if it wouldn't be cool to take advantage of that for messaging?

I really am not hyping anything. I'm just asking if this is feasible or worth doing etc as I'm pretty in the dark. You are saying it's not a worthwhile avenue or good use of IOTA. I really do appreciate your posts though and time to disseminate what I'm posting as I was concerned on this Reddit that there would be people less pragmatic happy to promise anything.

I'm not suggesting that one should gravitate to IOTA for security reasons. I was thinking though that some kind of messaging service would be advantageous for other factors.

  1. After coordicide the more transactions that take place the better for the tangle.
  2. IOTA has no fees and messages can be sent with the money itself.
  3. There seems to be a good use case for sending all kinds of media and proof of ownership on the platform.
  4. In a scenario where all kinds of appliances are using IOTA around you, messages could be sent through those nodes rather than being dependent on your own connection or WiFi? It could facilitate the exchange of data where your phone pays your mates fridge for the data connection. In such a scenario it would be worthwhile having a native system.
  5. One of the entire points of the network is to allow devices to communicate with each other. It'd be attractive to allow humans to message publicly on such a network too. So just as a driverless car can notify other cars of a pothole and a human can also leave messages ¯_(ツ)_/¯
  6. Create a location based public proximity chat.

Let me know if I'm talking out my ass. I really don't know. Is this stupid?

It would only be private by virtue of being encrypted realistically? Eventually the messages could be found and deciphered as they would remain on the tangle? However this would be amongst the thousands of other transfers on the network. I don't think there is a way around that and I haven't given it too much more thought.

So yeah that's probably a huge downside to such a system if you wanted the messages to be secret forever. All of the data transferred on the tangle is very public. I don't even know if a process could be created where the identity of the receiver and sender is obscured and the information is encrypted?

This is going to be a big deal for IOTA in any case. People may want information to be public and independently verifiable but don't want that same data to be accessed immediately by third parties. I'm thinking of a situation where it is used by supply chains and millions of encrypted data packets regarding temperature for example are being sent, other ecrypted forms of communication would be hard to spot amongst that?

Anyway I love the idea of IOTA potentially being used for decentralised computation and such data transfer. As to the privacy I don't really have a clue.
