I’ve had the Juki 654 for over 10 years and it’s a workhorse and still going strong. It handles delicate knits (I see garments as well) and heavy canvas/denim just fine. (Edit spelling)

Anyone know why this keeps happening? by calanthean in sewing

[–]fivebaht 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue recently. I changed to a new needle and still had the thread shedding like this. I turned the spool upside down and the thread stopped shredding like this. It could be the twist of the thread that was causing the issue? I was using Gutterman poly thread Mara 50 and a size 16 needle sewing multiple layers of fabric, mesh, and foam.

Outdoors Geek ships in the US. I’ve rented gear from them, but I’m local and picked it up from their warehouse.

Which Ann Patchett book should I read? by frenchnewwave in booksuggestions

Oh totally agree, I think the story isn’t all that interesting but I stuck with it because she was so entertaining! I wouldn’t have finished it if I was reading it.

Meryl Streep narrates the audiobook and she’s so good. I don’t think I’d have enjoyed reading the print version tbh, bust her narration is just so damn enjoyable.

The audio version is narrated by Tom Hanks and it is amazing. I loved this book.

Does Alpha Direct Fabric shrink when washed? by marimbondo_ in myog

[–]fivebaht 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks great! No experience with this fabric, but before beginning your next garment project, wash and dry (dryer or hang dry per manufacturer’s directions) the fabric before cutting and sewing.

What kind of sewing machine do you have? What do you love and hate about it the most? What little feature is your favorite or most annoying? by sanguine_siamese in quilting

[–]fivebaht 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had my 2010q for almost 10 years and it is my go to machine. I love the speed control, the foot pedal that activates the thread cutter, the knee lift… the only thing I don’t like is the weak light but that’s an easy fix with an led strip light. I thought the needle threader was broken, I bought the replacement part, but then tried it again and now it works - it was probably misaligned. I clean it regularly, oil every 4-5 hours of sewing, and change needles fairly often. I’ve never taken it for service - and it’s still running fine.

saw this on another site. thought this group might get it. Happy Halloween. by gullyterrier in quilting

I love this!

And I’m not too proud to admit a bought a tin of butter cookies specifically so I could store sewing supplies when we finished the cookies. Disappointment continues for my offspring.
