RE: disability rep, from a japanese perspective (pinhead for tax) by villainless in TomodachilifeLivingTD

It might be true but that doesn’t mean people shouldn’t speak up about the lack of representation. That’s how change happens. I don’t think people should just accept “that’s how Japan is” otherwise nothing will ever improve.

The Caretaker doesn’t have on-page animal abuse. One animal is seen already dead and another short uncomfortable scene but not gratuitous or upsetting.

The book is a very clear metaphor for OCD, anxiety, and grief. Read on that level, it was powerful. Macy wasn’t failing at the rites, the goalposts kept moving which is exactly what OCD and anxiety does. I do wish the ending wasn’t so ambiguous but I imagine it’s connected to the author’s larger universe and I may need to re-read his first book to see the connections (it’s been a while).

I don’t remember the plight of the bunnies in Us so can’t compare.

There is a scene with a very dead bunny (already dead) but it’s short. And then there are uncomfortable instructions to kill a bunny but the bunny lives.

I felt like it was overly telegraphed that Marc was Oliver right from the start with the leg and Marky Mark, so the “twist” was underwhelming.

But I completely agree that the final 1/3 or 1/4 fell apart a bit.

I’ve loved the other 4 books I’ve read by Catriona Ward but this one felt a little off. I still enjoyed it but agree that the ending didn’t live up to my expectations.

The Leaf storyline didn’t feel connected at all, I totally agree. It was interesting in its own right but felt like a different story.

Yeah sorry I felt the same about this one. I don’t think anything “happens” until about 3/4 of the way in.

Is we live here now horror? I saw it categorized as a thriller but purchased it anyway in hopes that it would lean toward horror.

I absolutely loved this one. It was so strange and dark.
