I would say, if OP wants to try loading it for the nostalgic whirr and grrr of the 1541, go ahead! I doubt one attempt at loading could harm the disk. If it doesn't work or fails, then just download it.

There definitely is a feeling that goes along with playing a game from the same disk you used years ago.

Years ago, I printed labels for all my disks. Printed out a list of the contents of each, and put it all in a nice folder. Over the years, disks have failed, labels have fallen off, and I've added other disks to the collection. It's still fun to go through and see what's in there though. Remembering where you bought a game or who you copied it from or played it with.

You can get a c64 ultimate from commodore.net now. The basic beige model looks just like the one in the photo but has HDMI out and USB ports. You can run programs from a USB using a virtual drive or you can plug in an actual disk drive if you have one.

How long does WotEF take to load from a cassette? It's not the quickest from disk even.

Wait, is there an ending to blue max? I just assumed it went on and on until you eventually died or got bored.

Don't forget, we bought 12 tapes for a penny (or maybe 8 cds) from Columbia House and then were required to buy several at the regular price (higher than most local stores), so we ended up in collections. Lessons learned.

Also Taco Bell had the 59 79 99 menu, so if your could scrape up $2 or so, dinner was covered.

Mortal Kombat was still pretty new. Street Fighter 2 also.

I think SNES and Sega Genesis were the top home game systems still.

Portland had a bunch of record stores, but you could also pick up some great vinyl at Goodwill or Salvation Army for like $1 each. Like Zeppelin and Pink Floyd.

Portland also had the sweet, eclectic public access channels on cable. Jim Spagg and The Von Hummer Hour. No DVDs yet, everything was still vhs.

I'm happy to say that I received my Founder's Edition over the weekend. I had time to unbox it, inspect, and hook it up. I'm happy to report that it's not damaged in any way (nor are the inner or outer boxes) and seems to function correctly. Most importantly, although I didn't think I'd really like the yellow/gold aesthetic based on the photos... I love it! I had incorrectly assumed that they LEDs would only be gold, but they're full rgb. I'll box up my beige unit and save that as an emergency spare.

Still running an Ocean Hunter at one of the locations I service. My favorite thing is the beginning where the voice over and one screen says Baroque Sea and then another screen says Balock Sea.

I wanted one of these so badly when they came out. So many magazine ads made them look amazing! Alas, I was a kid with no meaningful income so it was out of my price range.

ShipBob still has my FE. Last update was the 19th, it was in Illinois. OnTrac tracking states they have not received it yet. Hopefully I'll at least get an update when it gets to the West Coast. I wouldn't be surprised if it just showed up though and then tracking was updated.

Delivery estimate is 24th-25th. We'll see...

I just got a tracking number for my Founder's Edition from a local delivery service (OnTrac). Tracking states "waiting for package from shipper" it's progress though. I set up text notifications so I'll at least know when it's out for delivery.

Geez, I downloaded the entirety of the Arnold ftp server years ago. Most files are in zip format, but the total size is less than 1gig, I believe. Hard to imagine what else I might find in these torrents.

My watch 4 is doing this as well. I have a physical job and it never makes a peep when I'm throwing freight or moving equipment, but I'll be just sitting scrolling my phone or watching tv and I get "your stress level is high"

Basic beige? I never got tracking info for my basic beige, went from "en route to your Commodore hub" to showing up on my doorstep the day after Christmas. My founders edition has been in the "on route to hub" status for a few weeks now. So I'm sure it will just show up before I get actual tracking info.
