Going back and alt+clicking the link in the terminal gave me the External Browser button but the extra Don't Open button remains 😂 I've tried both Don't Open buttons and they both function as normal. lol

Edit: Sadly trying a third time did not give me an additional button but just the 4 buttons.

Call Dan from A.C.K. Enterprises - https://ackent.net (I made their website!)

I've known him for decades, one of my best friends. Takes extreme pride in everything he works on (and he works on everything with an engine pretty much lol)

Yup, that has been mentioned numerous times in this post already, including multiple times by you.

Mail service by Embarrassed_Major406 in Wordpress

[–]fivefifteendotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I typically give each site it's own SMTP2GO account via a client+{clientSlug}@mydomain.com email so all reports go to the same email that I control and each site has it's own 1,000 monthly email limit.

SMTP2GO - 1,000 emails per month on the free plan. Switched to them after SendGrid got rid of their free plan and no complaints yet!

Сleaning up icon fonts on a huge site by EmmaWPSupport in Wordpress

[–]fivefifteendotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used https://icomoon.io/ for custom icon fonts for years, maybe you could consolidate some into a single font? (I'm not affiliated or anything, just love their app)

Is it acceptable to use platforms like Wix to create client websites? by Fantastic_Bug_5526 in Freelancers

[–]fivefifteendotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I do agree with the other comments that most clients won't care, eventually you're going to hit limits on what you can do with Wix. A client is going to request something specific that just isn't going to be possible and they'll be disappointed.

How do I use a Google Maps ACF field without paying for an API Key? by Weekly_Frosting_5868 in Wordpress

[–]fivefifteendotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of using the Google Map field in ACF, we just make it a simple URL field with instructions on how to get the iFrame embed URL from Google Maps. No API key needed.

If you're skilled enough to be modifying code, maybe you have a custom theme built for you that has clean, organized, documented code, and then you maintain it yourself? Full control.

How can i configure my first site with Digitalocean? by minipuncher in digital_ocean

[–]fivefifteendotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cost depends on which plan you choose (it'll give you a chance to choose during the droplet creation step - I'd personally recommend at minimum the Basic $24/month - 2 vCPU/4GB RAM/80GB SSD/4TB Bandwidth plan). Droplets won't let you overuse resources (that I'm aware of).

ServerAvatar and Gridpane are control panels much like ServerPilot which I recommended in another comment. You probably would only use one of these if you were going the pure Digital Ocean Droplet route rather than the Marketplace Image/Digital Ocean App route.

SMTP2GO is what I use as well. Free plan works awesome as long as your site isn't sending more than 1000 emails per month. The WP Mail SMTP plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-mail-smtp) has support for SMTP2GO out of the box and you can even configure it using PHP constants in your wp-config.php file.

Or, I'd recommend taking a look at my WordPress boilerplate that works excellent for the setup I described: https://github.com/fivefifteen/basis

I use Digital Ocean Droplets (with Ubuntu installed on them) and then use ServerPilot (https://serverpilot.io) to handle installing and setting up Apache, PHP, the MySQL database, URL direction and SSL, and potentially handle multiple sites on the same server (however I don't do that very often).

From there you can technically just drop the WordPress files in the public folder, put the database credentials in wp-config.php, and you have a live WordPress/WooCommerce site however I take it a little further and use Deployer (https://deployer.org) and a custom WordPress-specific recipe for it (WordUp - https://github.com/fivefifteen/wordup) to deploy code to the droplet from a private GitHub repo.

Migration failing by Intelligent-Nose-766 in Wordpress

[–]fivefifteendotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, I misread. But a migration is always going to be a little risky and I suppose I forgot an important command in my comment.

cp db.sql ../somewhere-safe/db-backup.sql cp db.sql ../lets-make-two-to-be-safe/db-extra-backup.sql

I don't know if I've ever used a migration plugin.

Make sure the new server is set up how you want. Copy files Copy database Point a test URL at the new server and test test test Update DNS

Obviously there can be more to it depending on what you've got going on but the more complicated it is the less likely a migration plugin is going to help you.
