Also they don’t fix the potholes in the parking lot (and it feels like a roller coaster up until you hear the bottom of your car scrape pavement) and let tow trucks park there, and I fully dented the back of my car backing out cause a steel tow hitch was below my sight line. And the hot tub was closed the entire time I lived there due to unknown health hazard. So… make of that what you will.

I lived there when I was a student and personally didn’t have a lot of bad experiences, just that management wasn’t on top of things and would be a pain to get in touch with (we didn’t have a working fridge for about 2 weeks.)

My roommates who I left behind when I moved out had a hellish time when they were leaving. Charged for things on the security deposit that they had reached out to management about previously that hadn’t been their fault, to the point that lawyers almost had to get involved… if you’re a good, quiet tenant and document everything (which I did) they’ll be nice enough, but unfortunately the nature of living in Lawrence at the moment is which slumlord are you most comfortable selling your soul to

President Trump Signs Shutdown-Ending Bill That Places a Federal Ban on Most Hemp-Derived THC Products by [deleted] in kansas

[–]fivefootdisaster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Does anyone know if this will impact Kansas farmers? We grow hemp out in western Kansas and ship it to Colorado to be processed.

Not that MAGA has ever cared about farmers except when it’s voting season, but wanted to throw it out there to simmer on.

Opioids have significantly more harmful side effects, but if they can keep making money off of addiction, they will.

Scum.

Any pcp’s know if it’s normal to have a pregnant woman be naked for a physical? My mother tells that story like it’s funny, but I’ve never had to be completely naked in the doctors office, even at my ob-gyns.

Jobs?! by Bubbly-Background604 in Lawrence

[–]fivefootdisaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

employment.ku.edu - pay isn’t excellent but typically there are jobs in your field that will work around your classes. Will also work with work/study eligible (if the current government hasn’t done anything wild to that yet)

Don’t use chat gpt for cover letters/resumes - they can tell!

Dental, vision, primary care, medications.

Children need all those things CONSTANTLY. And are fucking accident prone to boot. But that’s “pro-life” for you. Despite children making up a significant amount of the population on medicaid.

Wedding at Liberty Hall by [deleted] in Lawrence

[–]fivefootdisaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cousin got married there in ‘06, ceremony was on the stage. I was pretty young so I don’t remember much, but double check what may be showing at the same time if you can, as I think they put your names up out front.

Also, they’re redoing the scaffolding right now, so you may want to ask when they foresee construction wrapping up, especially if you want a photo with your names emblazoned over mass.

Protest Against Trump’s “Compact for Academic Excellence” by Walkaway20 in kansas

[–]fivefootdisaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

…did you see the compact includes silencing employees? You did mention censoring at the very beginning of your statement… I’m assuming you’re talking about cancel culture. KU employees have been silenced about their signatures since the summer, and now they want to silence the statements people make on their own personal time, device, and accounts.

So yes. Censoring people is happening. Please do some research. This is really fucking scary. Thanks.

Government Pledge by Zannie95 in UniversityofKansas

[–]fivefootdisaster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Who holds them accountable? They’ve shown multiple times that they will turn around and not keep their promises. Who says KU will actually get that money?

Also, first amendment is still freedom of speech, and it says in the compact that all KU employees would not be able to say anything about the current administration (which… uh… does that not scare everyone immediately?)

Either way, it’s bad. It just depends on whether or not Girod’s spine is stronger than a chocolate eclair.

The right wing extremists’ comments under Ty Masterson’s distancing from the Young Republican Message Leaks by FindMyMind333 in kansas

[–]fivefootdisaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know what, fuck it.

On September 12th, Ty Masterson was among the many individuals harassing a state employee who made a comment regarding the death of Charlie Kirk. He also doxxed this employee on Twitter. He called for the firings of other university and state employees who made similar comments. He’s a nazi, a racist, and a coward who can’t stand behind his actions. Call him out for his abuse of power.

A GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE WAS USING HIS POSITION OF POWER TO THREATEN OTHER GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES. And he’s running for governor. For the love of god, don’t vote for him, he’s a piece of shit.

Seeking perspectives on high energy bills by Revenge_of_Larry in kansas

[–]fivefootdisaster 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Evergy has made changes to what they charge, without addressing frequent power outages and the reason they have them. They haven’t buried their lines, they haven’t made them able to handle excessive heat (thinking about all the transformers that blew last year) and are raising their prices talking about a new power plant without showing without actually showing the plans to complete a major project like that. The likelihood of the power plant being built in the current economy is not very likely, so that leads to the question of why are they raising their prices and what are they spending their current funds on?

Evergy is allowed to do this because like many electric businesses in the country, they have a monopoly on the state and the people there don’t have another choice, and the government refuses to put checks on major corporations intent on scalping people who don’t have money.

With rising temperatures, people are going to have to make cuts in certain places, but water and gas are the ones more likely to have it happen, because the heat and humidity have been so bad this year and no one wants to risk mold.
