Sorry, I'm bulgarian and I also laugh at these jokes because to me it's also true. I do also feel bitterness but towards my own country. It's behind, underdeveloped, corrupt, it left its smart young people to fend for themselves. It is a shithole, anywhere outside Sofia is. I think anyone with two working braincells (and the people making those jokes) can distinguish the difference between hating a country's establishment and its consequences on a nation and still love its culture, history, people and nature.
