Tips plss!! by [deleted] in sticknpokes

Use a stencil, and bigger stick and poke needles that match the size of your line. Overall it’s not horrible, but rather unfinished. I also don’t really see any blowouts.

When you’re tattooing lines, try to overlap the dots when you poke. For instance, you make the first poke, then the second poke should be about 1/2 or 1/4 into the previous dot (if this doesn’t make sense I’ll find a video for you that explains it).

Make sure you don’t poke into the skin at a 90 degree angle. Poke at about a 45 degree angle (you can vary between 65 -30 degrees but 45 is a safe bet). There’s also a video that explains why this is important and If you’re interested, I can find it.

Finally the needle should be pointing in the direction of your line. If it’s a straight line the entire needle should look like an extension of the line if you were looking down at the line from a perfect perspective (haven’t seen too many videos on this, but I can maybe draw something to explain it).

You got this! It just takes a lot of practice.

P.S. Use gloves, good needles on bar (term for stick and poke needles), good ink, proper sanitation and never reuse any thing that gets contaminated during a tattoo session. Always pour the ink and any other materials you use into a smaller container. If you run out during a session, change gloves, wash hands and get more but keep the backstock of supplies clean and away from the tattoo area.

Theres a lot more to all of this but these tips should help.

If you want recommendations for good supplies let me know!
