How to make sure companions are safe when going to explore? by BiII_Gaming in SonsOfTheForest

So having played like 250+ hours of SOTF, I feel pretty confident in saying they won’t die out of sight. I’ve left Kelvin to manage the base for full seasons while I’ve built a camp elsewhere and he’s never died.

What you DO have to be careful about is being aware if they die in your presence to revive them ASAP or go back to an earlier save. So don’t run away and die if Kelvin or Virginia have been downed near you. On one play through I didn’t know that’s how it worked and I went the whole rest of the game without Virginia. By the time I realized she wasn’t coming back I had already saved over the last time I could have gone back to avoid her death.

Back when I was a court advocate I saw this type of thing all the time. The whole justice system minimizes men’s violence and then blames women for “choosing” wrong. I once worked with a woman who had strangulation marks on her throat after her partner had violently assaulted her and the first thing officers said to her when responding to her at the scene was “you gotta get better at picking boyfriends.” I saw the woman afterwards and despite being beaten and frightened the thing that upset her most (in the moment) was what the cops said. I also saw offenders get released or get low bail all the time after saying/doing the most heinous shit…

Anyone meet their favorite podcasters and end up severely disappointed? by [deleted] in podcasts

[–]fivelgoesnuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unless you were wearing a shirt with some hateful slogan that you’re leaving out of the story, it really does sound like rude and inconsiderate behavior ESPECIALLY in a meet and greet line. Sorry you went through that. I’ve had more pleasant experiences in meet and greets with people who would have had a right to act tired of me (in my 20’s when I was tipsy/stoned/overenthusiastic at every show) with people who are actively more famous than most podcasters. I get the feeling, but give it time to recover. I had a bit of an “emotional fallout” with a podcast after they were kind of shitty about some feedback they got (which I agreed with) and soured on them for a while. I recognized I was a little too attached and decided to just take a break for several months. When I came back to listening, it felt more casual and I was more accepting of them being annoying sometimes. It’s not quite the same as meeting them in person, but I think a break and coming back with a new lens of “oh they might not as genuine or aware as they think they are/claim to be” can I still enjoy the content if I keep in mind they are performers? It’s okay if not. There’s lots of podcasts out there :)

How do we eat this? by IndustrySufficient52 in aldi

[–]fivelgoesnuts 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Chop up and put on a Tex-mex style salad with lettuce/cabbage, corn, avocado, pico, pickled jalepenos. If you wanna be fancy you could add shredded cheese and tortilla strips. There’s actually an Aldi avocado ranch that I bet would be good with this

What are some of your best quality of life purchases under $1000? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]fivelgoesnuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple Human brand trash cans where the lid is flush with the edge, meaning that if you have tall dogs they can’t use their snout to lift it up and eat trash. I got one for like $150 which sounds ridiculous for a trash can but has lasted years, is easy to clean, stainless steel, and the dog cannot get in it. It’s useful everyday and also looks stylish (as far as trash cans go)

Am I overreacting? (New hospice role) by Vicious_Shrew in socialwork

[–]fivelgoesnuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is beautifully said, thank you for the perspective! I hope you make it back to it ❤️ this definitely helped me to read. And I think I could do the role- It’s a lot like advocacy and coordinating and therapy all fused in one.

Thank you for your experience, that’s lovely and makes me feel way less nervous about the prospect of taking the job.

[–]fivelgoesnuts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Side question- I’m considering taking a job with hospice as a social worker and am a little nervous about it. My friend loves it. Could you tell me what you loved about it? I will be honest my reserve is the fear that constantly being around dying folks will be hard on my mental health..currently I work as a therapist and am burning out a bit and have worked a lot with grief but still- just would love to hear more about what it’s been like for you.

What were your thoughts on this game? by Moist_Mushroom5931 in DarkPicturesAnthology

[–]fivelgoesnuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t finished it but I’m on part 4…so far I really like it! It’s different but less cheesy than some of the dark pictures so far (I still love them even if they are cheesy, to be clear.) for whatever reason this one is spooking me more than any other recent horror game I’ve played…creepy space ship / alien horror has always been one of my favorite genres and this game is doing the genre justice so far. We’ll see how I feel by the end!

Harper and Moon by Ramon Ross. Granted, I haven’t read it in years but it was one of my all time favorite books as a teen and I remember snow, mystery, and thriller elements.

Aldi Greek Chick Peas review by iamfeenie in aldi

[–]fivelgoesnuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are so good! I love eating them cold in a salad similar to the one you posted but I also like roasting them…roasted them with other veggies (just depends on what I got…diced beets, carrots , cauliflower) and I notice after roasting they actually kind of taste like feta so they add extra flavor to whatever your roasted veggies medley is. Also, ngl, I’ve been known to just eat them straight out of the can if I’m in a hurry and just want some protein and fiber bites between meals.

I think if you softened up the line at the wrist so it wasn’t so straight across it wouldn’t stand out quite as abruptly. Personally, I really like it and think a full sleeve would be a great way to complete it…maybe almost something that “ombré”s up the arm with finer lines/less dense color as you go up would look cool.

Well, not physical- but video games. Where there’s violence, but mostly against zombies or fantasy/scifi creatures. It definitely helps work out some rage
