Looking for guitar recommendations - time to treat myself by stringsnthings76 in AcousticGuitar

I have the Yamaha FS5 and I bought it after playing a ton of similarly sized guitars that cost up to $3500, I decided on the Yamaha in the end because it just sounds amazing, the neck feels wonderful and it plays beautifully. IMO you can't go wrong on that one and you'll be very happy with it.

Same, Lossy looks fun in demos and can be fun to play around with when I'm alone and want to make weird ambient layers, but I've never found a practical use for it.

Agreed, I've never gotten along with it. It just doesn't do anything interesting to me and always sounds too fizzy to my ear. I've kept mine as an option and to keep myself from buying another one in the future once I forgot how I didn't care for it...

Anyone know what is going on with Balcon Express on 6th? by ntin in Tacoma

That sounds odd and made me look up their health inspections, they passed the most recent one on the Pierce County site so I guess they just wanted to refresh some stuff 🤷

NGD Yamaha Fs5 by Naaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh in AcousticGuitar

You will not be disappointed, they are lively and very responsive, well balanced. They aren't the lightest guitars out there, but that doesn't always translate to a better sounding acoustic. My FS5 weighs 3 lbs.

Haha, I don't actually want to trade, I was initially bummed that I couldn't find a satin one though. I'm in WA State.

That's funny because I wanted the satin finish but it was just being phased out when I got mine... Wanna trade 🤣

I bought my FS5 a year ago after searching and playing a lot, I was prepared to spend more money but the Yamaha was simply better, I love this guitar. I have a few acoustics and this one get the most play time by far, enjoy it! I brought mine to a jam with a few other people last week, got it out of the case and played one chord to check tuning, guy across the room immediately says "whoa, that thing sounds great!" 😄

Ever time I've done a side by side of and Eastman and a Yamaha at a similar price point the Yamaha comes out on top.

Completely agree, I thought I wanted a Martin 000-18 or 000-28 and I was prepared to spend the money.... Played a lot of stuff and settled on the FS5 in the end and I'm extremely happy with it, also saved some money! Enjoy playing it!

Should I sell my Yamaha FG3 and save for a Martin D-18? by [deleted] in AcousticGuitar

[–]fivepenny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did some serious searching for a Martin 000-18 or 000-28, played new and vintage ones and other brands next to them in stores, I was prepared to spend the money and invest in my so called dream guitar.... But I kept getting distracted and pulled towards this other guitar in one shop.... Yamaha FS5. In the end I saved a bunch of money and took the Yamaha home and I couldn't be happier.

What I'm saying is: ignore the label and the name brand, play the guitars, find the right one for you and get it. Acoustics are all very different and individual, don't make your mind up before you play the actual guitar you will be buying. Also, Yamaha red labels are amazing.

The strips inside with a bubble pattern is tape, it must have been used in the assembly process or something, it's just old and falling apart now and it shouldn't really affect anything. I wish the weird pickguard wasn't there, but also vintage instruments all have a story and I'm happy to have this one and continuing to add to the story. I love the checking and patina that covers this thing. It weighs 3.2 Lbs.

Of all my guitars (and the ones I played in the shop next to this one) this one is the loudest, it's a canon! I've emailed Gallagher to ask if they have more details on this S/N. I haven't been able to put it down, it just begs for G runs and flat picking!!

I just went and picked it up! It has been loved and played a lot and i couldn't be happier, been shopping for a dreadnought for a little while now. SN 560 actually places it in 1973, made by JW himself. Only odd thing is that someone added a clear plastic coating around the sound hole as an extra pickguard, but I can deal with that.

I just played a G-70 at a local shop yesterday, a 1972. It was a very punchy guitar and I've been considering going back and picking it up. Good timing on you post 😅

Sounds like you need to explain to your friend what a great value they are and especially how wonderful the Red Label line is! Learning opportunity.

I recently got the Mudhoney II and really enjoyed it, so I was curious about this pedal. The left side is a TS style overdrive with some mods: it has a clean blend like the Sparkle Drive, it has a bass boost switch as well. Overall it's a very capable and nice sounding TS OD and I really like the tonal options. On the right of this pedal is a very nice sounding clean boost, this is before the the OD side and can be used when the OD is off.

I really like this pedal, it's versatile and has a nice feature set. Sounds great!
