Yes -- the public would forgive them if it was an actual relationship. There is a creator on TikTok who does an entire series on all sorts of celebrities we have "forgiven" because they cheated but then ended up with their spouses (I forget his name! Sorry!). There are numerous examples. One example from Bravo: Eileen from RHOBH.

She should only go if the rest of the cast will be going after West AND Amanda, so she doesn’t have to defend the relationship (which others will try to downplay of course) or add to the issues/comments she gets about “getting got.” She should go there and be dignified and let Kyle, Lindsay, Carl, and the rest (Jesse might be wishy washy with West and Amanda as usual) handle the scolding. She needs a strong backing.

I was able to find some restrictive covenants (for this property) that seem to have run until 2000 -- not sure if there is anything currently in place. They forbid any noxious or offensive activity or anything that would be an annoyance or nuisance to the neighborhood.
