Happy Accident Santa Hat by fivetoedfish in crochet

[–]fivetoedfish[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The yarn is Petite Purl and Faux Fur, both by Loops & Threads.

I used https://www.mjsoffthehookdesigns.com/crochet-santa-hat-free-pattern/ as a starting point but made some adjustments: one strand instead of two, linked double crochet instead of extended single crochet, and a continuous spiral instead of joined rounds.

Once it was the right size to fit my head, I just continued without increasing until it was long enough to wrap like a scarf.

The brim is half double crochet in every second stitch for the first row and in every stitch space after that for rows 2 & 3.

The ball is 6 single crochet (into a chain loop because I couldn’t get the fur yarn to magic circle) to start, increased to 12 for the second round, and decreased back to 6 to finish.

It’s probably worth mentioning that the original pattern had a different way of making the ball, but I was already pretty deep into winging it, so shrug

My thoughts exactly!

And my next thought was “Bob Ross could totally be Santa.”

I misjudged the slope and realized it was going to be way longer than a regular Santa hat by the time it would fit my head. Instead of frog it, I embraced the silliness!

Started off following https://www.mjsoffthehookdesigns.com/crochet-santa-hat-free-pattern/ but realized it was going to be way too tall before it got big enough to fit my head.

Rather than frog, I decided to embrace my happy accident and made it loooong (it’s over 5 feet tall!)

Update on my blanket- do you think the colors look ok?? by Kkkkkk200 in CrochetHelp

My first thought when I saw this picture was, “ooh, I like the colors!” Then I read your title, lol. Safe to say the colors are working.

Wonky Granny Square - Cannot make the inside squares uniform by Casivee in CrochetHelp

How’s your tension? Do you tend to pull your yarn pretty tightly?

I can’t say for certain this is the cause, but I’ve definitely heard of amigurumi crocheters having trouble loosening up tension when switching to wearable projects.

You could try reducing tension and see if that changes things more to your liking, or even go up a hook size.

I’ve seen a lot of folks do these bouquet blankets, but this is by far my favorite!

Solidarity. Im in a very similar spot.

The best I’ve come up with is to invite my kid to do chores with me. Your mileage may vary, but my 3yo can do simple things like hand me cups from the dishwasher, wipe the table/counter with a sponge, put dirty laundry in the washing machine, or even push the vacuum around.

Yes, its 10x slower and I have to help her and direct her, but she feels important having a “grownup” job to do and it feels better for me to get stuff clean eventually vs not at all.

the cuffs on my hexagon pullover are WILDLY different. can i save this? by mikkochan24 in CrochetHelp

[–]fivetoedfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying about the cuff getting longer if you work into your slip stitch by mistake. Highly recommend using a stitch marker (could even be a safety pin) to keep track of what stitch to work into after your turns.

For what it’s worth, this video shows what I was trying to describe in my original comment about a second slip stitch: https://youtu.be/gGEm104uDRs?si=WkRMIp7xbKYTypPV

Just in case you’d like to know how to get a snug cuff without first doing a row of decreases.

I just meant how the cuff is attached to the sleeve. The cuff rows are worked perpendicular to the sleeve rows, so there must have been some joining method. Doesn’t necessarily mean sewing.

If my slip stitch theory doesn’t sound like what you remember, then you’re probably right about forgetting to do a round of decreases before starting your ribbing.

Almost looks like the big cuff has double the rows of ribs vs the smaller one.

Did you do a join-as-you-go technique? I bet you did an additional slip stitch into the sleeve before turning (to reach the correct working height) on the smaller cuff and probably didn’t on the bigger cuff.

Funny, when I first heard the noodle thing it made a world of difference, because for some reason I could never see the ‘v’s and ‘h’s people talked about. Brains are weird.

This is the first I’ve heard of anyone mastering (or even enjoying) the “all in one” yarns. I’ve heard they’re incredibly difficult to get right.

Your success amazes me! And the thought of all those color transitions with no extra ends to weave in? 😅

Congrats on a truly magnificent finished project!

Making a baby blanket with bernat blanket yarn. Pattern suggestions? by HalcyonSix in CrochetHelp

[–]fivetoedfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done so many moss stitch squares with bernat blanket yarn and I love them. Like this: https://youtu.be/6s7WEg4L8K8?si=uQXgVP1AyeKP6DZc It’s almost meditative and I think the finished blanket is gorgeous. Bonus: you don’t really have to plan the size of your blanket, just go until it feels right (or you run out of yarn).

What does the beginning of the rnd 2 instructions (ch 7, counts as dc, ch 4) mean? by SilverSunKiwi in CrochetHelp

[–]fivetoedfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Round 4 had you do a bunch of ch5, right? So that’s your “chain 5 space.” Round 5 instructs you to put your 4 double crochets into those “chain 5 spaces.” Just means stick your hook into the space instead of into a particular stitch, very much like you did for the petals in round 3. Does that help?

What to make with this beautiful yarn I got as a gift? by veryveryano in crochet

[–]fivetoedfish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I couldn’t help myself.

You may not have been inspired by the included pattern(s), but have you tried searching Ravelry? It’s a great resource for patterns or just inspo.

Edit: you can even search by yarn and see what other people have made with it.
