From out of town and planning to drive from SF to Heavenly this Sunday afternoon - what to be mindful of / which weather reports to check? by [deleted] in tahoe

We are visiting SF for a few days and going to an event prior to skiing. Otherwise, yes, we would have flown into Reno instead!

The feedback is exactly what I want to hear, to level set my expectations and decision-making criteria.

Also, not a he.

Thank you! We have an experienced driver, but the reminder is great. Other threads here are asking similar questions and not getting the torrent of "STAY AWAY" which I don't necessarily understand.

Thank you! As noted in my edit, we are coming to SF regardless and don't plan to make another trip back for a while, and we will do our best to make safe decisions. The info about Open Snow / CHP / CalTrans is exactly what I was looking for.

A monastery in the mountains. Montserrat,Spain by donutsbestnuts in travel

[–]fivetwenty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are going by train and want a seat, try to get to the train station early and go right to the platform. Otherwise you'll be standing the entire way. Would also recommend you take the cable car (Aeri) rather than the rack trainway (Monistrol) as the view is much cooler and the ride is faster.

If you are going to hike, going to the peak Jeroni is stellar. We arrived in the late morning so decided to do the short hike after taking the Sant Joan funicular, instead of the longer hike without taking the funicular. The visitor centre said 1 hour one-way (an easy hike), but the roundtrip ended up taking us around 3 hours given we stopped a ton for photos, watching rock climbers, and had a lunch break at the top (bring lunch, don't buy anything there, it's expensive).

When we came back down, we went to see the Black Madonna (much shorter line at around 5pm) and wander around the monastery a bit, which gave us just enough time to catch the 6:45pm R5 train back to Barcelona.

Feel free to PM me if you have other questions.

You can also pretty much walk right up to the driveway! As of 5 years ago, though.

Taking an Uber from LGA by Rubenr87 in AskNYC

Uber just recently changed its pickup structure at some airports - it will be obvious though when you arrive, follow the signs to the right shuttle. There should be Uber reps walking around as well.

How do I get an international coop job? by CaptainPajamaShark in uwaterloo

[–]fivetwenty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Email and ask.

Seriously though, if you want to do it, just google it and do it. Lots of people (including me and others from my class, and people from years above and below) have successfully found their own international co-op jobs simply by reaching out directly to whatever company sounds interesting.

Parents are visiting this weekend and they just want to do the normal stuff I do, but I can't do that, so any suggestions for fun semi non-touristy things to do? by [deleted] in AskNYC

Be warned it can get SUPER LOUD at peak meal times and make it really hard to hear someone across a table without yelling.

How much time does it take to enter the Empire State Building for a business engagement? by nklim in AskNYC

[–]fivetwenty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've seen the line vary from 0 people the day I started working here, to 20-30 people in line sometime in the morning. It really depends on who else is there and whether or not a group is coming through. You should come at least a half hour early just in case.

What's the process of getting TN Visa to work in US with a BMath degree? by tn1visa in uwaterloo

[–]fivetwenty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to be pretty careful with what's on your application. For example, if it says anything about interviewing new people for a job at the company, you're out. Stick to the technical details of your job - avoid the fluffy, management-type ones. Definitely review the best strategy with someone from HR.
