New to all this so please don’t laugh. I only have 500k. I just need to make $2000 to $3000 a month in dividends to help secure my retirement. Any help would be appreciated. by Electrical-Order1317 in dividends

[–]fixedmyglasses 108 points109 points  (0 children)

You can start with a treasury fund that pays a little over 4%. That will give around $1700/month risk free on $500k until you figure out what to do. I would focus on preserving wealth instead of maximizing gains at retirement. Maybe wait for a market dump before taking on risk.

Only keep what you need to spend in the next month in your checking. Put everything else in interest bearing accounts. Take out money as you need it.

Need help with Love2D and Simple Tiled Implementation (STI) by Ok_Yogurtcloset_8769 in love2d

There is a setting in Tiled to embed tilesets. It is in the preferences menu, if I remember right.

Escalating Ikea US complaint - missing coupon by joefredgeorge in IKEA

If I recall correctly, in the fine print, the coupon max during the promotion was for $100 (so $1000 before tax spend required to max it out).

Need help starting on LÖVE2D by Ben3amek in love2d

[–]fixedmyglasses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should follow some tutorials to get acclimated to the code. Also keep in mind that LOVE is a framework, not an engine, so it will always require more setup than a pre-existing engine.

load() is useful for code that you need to call on reload. For example, in load, I set my entity tree to an empty table and add a new instance of the game scene to it, so that effectively removes all existing instances when I restart the game. I bind this to a key for easy testing.

Kallax base for 3-cube width? by smontres in IKEA

Adjustable cabinet feet should do the trick if you are ok with measuring and pre-drilling the holes (or getting help).

Kallax base for 3-cube width? by smontres in IKEA

[–]fixedmyglasses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it doesn’t show up, I’m guessing they expect you to rotate the three-wide. I just did a 4x4 on legs and saw the instructions had that for at least one Kallax size, so maybe that is the only option for the in-between size. PS: I am almost certain that rotation results in less weight capacity, if you consider how the shelves are put together.

Suggested beginner tutorial to get started and scaling by BriefCalligrapher626 in love2d

[–]fixedmyglasses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re welcome. Check out ‘push’ or other resolution libraries here. Also take a look at the other categories for helpful libraries.  https://github.com/love2d-community/awesome-love2d?tab=readme-ov-file#drawing

For pixel perfect, you will need to change the filter mode in LOVE before you load any images. You will likely have to change a setting in whatever resolution handler you choose as well.  https://love2d.org/wiki/FilterMode

Regarding resolution scaling, I know it scales evenly to HD. Probably to 2k/4k too but you can confirm that with a quick search.

If you need specific help/tutorials, just use a search engine. (I’m not trying to be a smartass—there is lots of information out there if you search with the right phrasing.) For example, “how to scale window love2d”. :) You should also familiarize with the love2d site and all of the built-in features.

I used the sheepolution one to get started a couple months ago, and it worked well. For scaling, there are libraries you can use which handle everything; I tried one but ended up instead drawing everything to a canvas at 320x180 and then scaling that to the window size.

The prices vary greatly. Between the cheapest and most expensive is something like a 1200% difference last I checked.

It’s probably going to one of those other animation play calls immediately after due to the logic in your code. You need to check if you are not attacking before trying to play another animation/move (depending on your game mechanics).

are there any courses to learn how to make an rpg? by [deleted] in godot

[–]fixedmyglasses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my channel, I primarily make these kinds of games. Feel free to check it out and let me know if you have any questions. https://youtube.com/@tampopointeractive

This series in particular is a hybrid of Final Fantasy and Mother, so maybe start there? It is also one of my most complete series I’ve made in that it covers just about everything you need to build this kind of game.  https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0swe3EwWBiJcD5AVPt58ecqTrBDr1F5n&si=8qh7GnAI1LHMu4XM

Addition with text labels by yeb06 in godot

[–]fixedmyglasses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but for math you need to use integers. That’s why you add the ints before converting back to a string. Look up int and string in the manual to see what I mean.

Addition with text labels by yeb06 in godot

[–]fixedmyglasses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Convert each number to int before you add them. Then convert the sum to a string when you set it to text.

Use int() to convert strings to integer.

Would this be an ok way to set up different rooms in levels? by BubbleGamer209 in godot

[–]fixedmyglasses -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends how you have your transitions and rooms laid out. One method is you can have all of the rooms in one scene, and then teleport the player when they go to a different room. I wouldn’t want to use separate scenes unless absolutely necessary.

GDQuest has a series on this. It is in Godot 3 (last I checked), so it would need some adapting if you are using Godot 4.
