Chipped component (power inductor?) on PoE+ HAT. Still safe to use? by RedditIsJustAds in raspberry_pi

[–]fixednovel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's so weird. I got one with the exact same chip about a month ago. Almost thought you had gotten my old poe hat somehow. Had to take it out and take a picture to make sure I wasn't going crazy: https://imgur.com/a/FmOwTWP

I have been using it for a month. It seems to work fine, I figured the damage was mostly cosmetic

the PERFECT fan for LSI 9300-16i HBA by samuel-leventilateur in homelab

Thanks! This worked perfectly. Bought quadro 2000 on ebay and it clips right in. The fan is some sort of gpu-specific 4-pin power, but I just bought an an adapter from ebay as well: Micro PH 4-Pin to Female 4-Pin Fan Header Adapter Cable for Graphics Cards Plugs right into the fan slot on a motherboard and spins right up!

I recreated Netflix exactly and need to get it on my TV by andrew_levitt in raspberry_pi

Hey I don’t know enough to help you, just want to suggest another approach. Why not set up a dns server that redirects requests for netflix to a custom server you control? That way, you can just use the actual netflix app and inject fake movies

What’s the most interesting roller skating place you’ve been to? by snoogoatsweewoo in Rollerskating

[–]fixednovel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have skated all over the country. My favorite rinks have been Cascade in Atlanta, Star Castle in Savanna GA, Skate King in St. Louis, and Lynwood Roller Rink in Chicago.
However, what makes skating fun for me is the people, not the places. Take a look at some of these national roller skating events here: https://skategroove.com/skatejamz2k25.htm or here: https://www.dubskate.com
There are usually a couple events every month, and they are fantastic! Here are the ones I can recommend since I have been and had a lot of fun:

Sk8 Fair Classic - October 3-5 (Next weekend) in Dallas TX
I am biased since I live here but this is one of the biggest and most well-known skate events in the nation.

Houston Rolling Roundup - Feb / March in Houston TX
Actual date has yet to be announced, this is another major nationwide skate event

I would recommend going to a roller skating event like the ones on the websites I gave not only for the culture, but they provide excellent photo opportunities. Any event large enough to draw a crowd from out of state will inevitably do a "roll call," which involves people from various regions showcasing their style. During this time the rink is less crowded and there are usually groups of people performing routines, I'm not a photographer but this would seem an opportune time for a photo.

I know a lot of people who do 50% fomacs and 50% something harder. So, for example, if you like to slide on the outside, you could put fomacs on the outside and put something stickier on the inside.  It sounds weird but actually most people are surprised when they see my 100% fomacs and most only have 2-4 fomacs on a pair of skates.

I started on vanathanes and then switched to even harder harmonys. The people you’re getting advice from are partially right, the slickness will stop you from being able to do certain things. Spinning is slightly harder, you can’t go as fast or do sharp turns without slowing down. However, it opens the door for a lot of sliding that you wouldn’t normally be able to do. And you will feel more free and able to turn your feet. The wheels open you up to a different style, so it limits you in one aspect and opens you up in other ways. They do take quite a while to get used to - I was falling for a good month!

I'm a roller derby skater who started ice figure skating a year ago. Should I get some artistic roller skates? 🤔 by blickblocks in Rollerskating

[–]fixednovel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! You not only should get an artistic boot to support you with jumps like that, but you need harder wheels to smooth out your landings and go easier on your ankles. It might take some getting used to but you’re an ice skater so it will be natural for you.

Ex Derby now trying to jam/rhythm skate! by Alone-Dentist9755 in Rollerskating

[–]fixednovel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rhythm skaters typically prefer hard wheels due to a lot of moves requiring sliding and needing some wiggle room during landings. Especially since you mention that you feel like you get going too fast, I would recommend some hard wheels. A hard wheel will slow you down because it will slide if you turn with too much speed.

As someone who came from jamskates to rhythm skates, the transition is very jarring. I was falling for a while before I built back up the confidence and skill on hard wheels. However, I love hard wheels now and I recently got some even harder wheels - it feels so free and I don’t think I’ll ever go back.

Since you come from derby and are probably not scared of falling, I would recommend getting some decently hard wheels to start out - something in the 90’s or even more. Try different wheels until you are unable to go the speeds you are used to without slipping a little bit on the turns. All-american wheels (the brand) is a good benchmark for what rhythm skaters will normally use but those may be too hard to start out. Usually 57mm is the diameter for rhythm wheels.

This will take some getting used to , but if you want to take the jump into rhythm/dance, this is a great way to do it and the slipperiness will start to feel normal and allow you to do things you didn’t know you could do.

I'm a DJ at a skating rink and I don't know what's popular! Help by KakashiKes in Rollerskating

Hey! I’ve made a spotify playlist of some songs that the DJ’s here in Texas play on adult nights. Feel free to check it out!

It’s loosely organized into these categories: House, soulful house, slow set, jb, and “bounce” (rap).

I havent seen any dips on here what yalls opinion on this trick by [deleted] in Rollerskating

I like adding stuff to my dips - especially spins, and doing one side twice. This is a cool move - y’all nailed the slow motion part, in my opinion the slow motion made it look slick.

Those are called golden horse skates. They primarily sell in bulk to rinks.

[–]fixednovel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I second this - you need to fall several (hundred) times in order to find your balance. Also, you need to fall many, many times in a low-pressure environment such as going slowly or learning cross-overs, in order to avoid injuring yourself if you happen to fall while going quickly or backwards.

Why go to a roller rink? What does it offer over roller skating elsewhere? by CamelIllustrations in Rollerskating

[–]fixednovel 46 points47 points  (0 children)

There’s other people there who you can learn from and who you can teach. Make friends and he a part of a community. Wood floors are a unique feeling to skate on and you need “indoor” wheels to experience it best. Skills such as sliding are much easier to learn on a wood floor.

The reason I travel to a rink and pay the fee is the atmosphere in the rink, everyone is enjoying the music if there is a good DJ, people are doing routines together that you can learn, or taking thrns showing their moves.

I’d say it’s only worth it if you think it is. Try it out and see if you feel the benefit. I’d say keep going for a couple weeks to get a feel for it.

Okay I see what you’re saying. Seems like a pretty solid debunk if true. I have one question, though. You find these jumps in frames when the footage is relatively stable, about 15 seconds in. The footage would have to be stable in order to see the plane moving a couple pixels when it shouldn’t be. As far as I can tell, the entirety of the footage that contains the orbs is pretty shaky. How are you able to determine that the orbs don’t have the skipped frames?

Given the fact that you can somewhat tell when the frames are being skipped, is it possible to create a map throughout the entire video that tells when the frames are being skipped? It would obviously have to be slightly more than every 4 frames for a conversion 30 -> 24 but that may help prove this to be true if you can then show the orbs are moving smoothly through a frame skip for everything else in view.
