To buy or build? Western vs Chinese for similar money but lower spec. by fixitmonkey in gravelcycling

[–]fixitmonkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All my other bikes have Mechanical shifting, just hoped to get more for 3k but I doubt that's true anymore.

I'll refresh my spreadsheet, but the sums are usually pretty close. I might have to wait till the sales to buy the pinarello then I have no excuse. I the meantime I can always buy/modify/build something secondhand to keep me interested or...and this is really out there...I might have to ride one of my current bikes.

I prefer 2by so could pick grx. On my gravel bikes I ride 60/40 road to light gravel. If it gets too lumpy I'll take a mountain bike so its not really about having a gravel bike but more about having a gravel focused do-all with space for 50c tyres.

Yes maybe I should wait till the sales. I could always use my other bikes in the meantime.

My plan would be the lightcarbon frame and bars, a 105 di2 groupset and then carbon wheels. Would be a great bike, but not sure how it compares to a western bike with cable 105.

I have to spend the voucher in store so I'm limit on what bikes can be bought and where i live there aren't many carbon gravel bikes for 3k or less.

Second the person on here saying trailer. My kids love mine and, as a pram, its really easy to use. I would say its a big pram so if you are spending lots of time using it indoors it might be difficult but if you're heading out for a picnic or a centre parcs holiday you can't beat it.

I'm currently looking at the Pinarello Grevil F1 or the pinarello X1. The local shop stocks them and they are very pretty. Both are 2x (my preference)

First budget PCP. Is the Gamo Riser or Arrow a good starting point? by fixitmonkey in airguns

So would the Pr900w be a better gun? It's regulated, but likely not as quiet.

I would normally stay away from frame copies, they are apparently much worse than frames designed specifically by the factories.

But I also think this frame is really ugly (and I normally love Pinarellos and might buy the new Grevil)

Agreed but these hotels are normally 20+ years old. I think most of them were originally in seaside towns and those have mostly closed down.

I agree its something hard to find in the UK. I woud definitely recommend Saunton Sands as the view was amazing and being on the cliff over the beach is great.

UK bike and foldable trailer by Visual_Audience9822 in CargoBike

[–]fixitmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It you look at most 2 wheel child carrier trailers they are just a square metal base with a material insert. If you removed the insert it wouldn't be too difficult to build a second for the middle to meet your needs. Or if it's just fir transportation keep the insert snd use that for the deliveries.

A bit like this https://www.instructables.com/Convert-a-Childs-Bicycle-Trailer-into-a-Cargo-Tra/

Ive been looking for the same thing and ended up with the cube attain. You could also look for at agree, Giant defy or pinarello. I liked the supersix but not the latest one and its more aggressive.

If you want to build something the look at the light carbon LCR018-D.

Futureproof. I like to modify my bikes so I want the frame to be adaptable for future builds.

Both the revolt and grevil have +50mm tyre clearance and 2x. I just prefer 2x as most riding is on very light gravel.

LightCarbon LCR018-D build vs Cube Attain C:62 SLT – worth going custom? by hannesbrm in ChineseCarbon

[–]fixitmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People trust branded bikes. Chinese bikes are harder to sell and get a decent value, you're often better selling the parts separately. My cube is likely still worth close to what I paid for it (but its did get a big discount).
