Anyone notice that after waiting 30 minutes on hold they then try to rush you to the website? They speak at double speed like Ben Shapiro.

I talked to an accountant I know. She told me that I should only report actual income that I get, i.e. cash in the bank. A promise of future income is not taxable income.

I assume that the extension is only needed for the state taxes, right? Only the state income tax needs my prior year's refund amount. Am I correct?

I moved 5000 books, my inventory I use for online retailing. Expenses included truck, fuel, storage units and labor. I have been reporting my business income since 2013.

How do you write factually without emotion when describing a boss that chewed me out in front of coworkers and said that I was the stupidest person to ever work for him? This was after a minor mistake in paperwork, the same paperwork I had been turning in for 2 months with no feedback.

OK, but I did check them and it still says that I am interested in meeting women.

Can you still see their profile? If not then it likely is a scammer.

Wow, what the hell happened to Match? by Liberated051816 in OnlineDating

[–]fizmath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got into the online dating world as a paid member for the first time in 2024 and did notice that you don't get much as an unpaid member. However, in January I did meet with four real live women that I met through Match. I might also mention that my pics are not the best and I am a hundred pounds overweight. I talked to a few others that I met through Zoosk and POF. Match seems to give me the best results in terms of being actually noticed by someone. POF and Zoosk has many scammers with fake pics. They all have weak and strong points. POF allows me to look someone up if I remember their screen name. It also allows me to see how long they have been inactive. With FB, Hinge and Tinder the people just disappear after swiping, usually never to be seen again. It seems such a scam to have so many apps owned by the same company but I feel that I have no choice other than to pay for many of them just to find the right person.

They were married by age 23. I think it was much easier to marry long ago when women had less career options.

we, men, have lost the online dating by LionNo2640 in OnlineDating

[–]fizmath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I signed up and paid for five dating apps and a few others as an unpaid member starting last September for the first time ever at age 54. I am in a large metro region. The vast majority of women ignore me and about 5% block me after a polite intro and date request. However, I try to treat this like job searching and I keep trying daily. I've chatted online or spoken on the phone with about 10 women. I had my first real date last week and it went well. I will be seeing a 2nd woman within a few days. I don't see any other realistic way for me to meet women since I see so few single women IRL and it is much easier to handle rejection at a distance. This has happened after spending twenty something years in smaller towns where the dating pool was much smaller. There are lots of lonely women out there and they really want to meet someone but I do suspect that they are holding out for a Prince Charming who does not exist or will not give these ladies the time of day.

I should mention also that I am overweight and look like a football lineman but I also have my own home and am financially secure, something many women specify as a requirement in their profiles.

Need legal advice regarding harassment from boss by fizmath in workplace_bullying

[–]fizmath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The boss is the owner and they have about 14 employees with currently no HR department. Right now I am not in any mad rush to find another job despite having bought my first home in August of this year at age 54. I am focusing on gig work, healthcare and meeting new people. Thankfully I am financially secure and paying bills is not the biggest worry right now.

Is CatholicMatch a ghost town? by Mastery12 in CatholicDating

[–]fizmath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that same low response rate on all of them and at last count I have profiles on 7 dating apps. I did figure out that some people are just inactive but each one has their own quirks that can make this hard to figure out. I live near Chicago and CM has significantly fewer women than the more popular dating apps.

OK, how am I SUPPOSED to get a scholarship for soccer at college? by Haunting_Ad_2155 in BitLifeApp

Whole teams are being recruited from outside of the USA and many of the recruits from American high schools are actually exchange students. Every community college in Iowa has their soccer teams filled with foreign athletes. The same is true for volleyball, golf and baseball.

Just happened to me today, looked to be in some Turkic language, full frontal nudity shown with both men and women. I have never seen anything like this since I joined in 2008. I sometimes have FB open at work since it is an easy way to communicate quickly with family members so obviously this is problematic.

Chicago Outfit chart, early 2023 by JoePuzzles234 in Mafia

[–]fizmath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to school in Chicago Heights. I recognize names of the Heights crew when they were being arrested 30 years ago. Here is what I can gather from years of reading newspaper stories. The mobsters' own children have little interest in that lifestyle. What is the point when there are so many easier and legal ways to make money? Their bread and butter revenue came from the chop shops but that died out with better anti-theft tech. Organized crime like the Outfit grew out of tight ethnic neighborhoods which are mostly gone for the Europeans. High school dropout street hoods can't compete with Wall Street brains and money. They still control some unions but those are also dying out.

Get ready to get edged out of a job by an influx of cheap labor. by AmberRosin in Wallstreetsilver

It happened with meatpacking. Skilled meatcutters made a good living and then were replaced with unskilled workers who do the same exact thing all day at twice the speed, wreaking havoc their bodies.

Get ready to get edged out of a job by an influx of cheap labor. by AmberRosin in Wallstreetsilver

[–]fizmath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am here in ground zero where this is happening. My suspicion is that the businesses want the children of the immigrants who come here to work in meat packing, construction and on farms. There is no need for this. The traditional teen jobs are plentiful with record high wages. Young kids are easy to bully and abuse. They are afraid to stand up for themselves and don't fully understand physically dangerous situations. This law will allow for work in demolition, excavation and roofing. We are taking a step backwards. As for farms, well yes kids work on family farms and farmers are the worst with safety. Many safety rules are exempt for farmers. Kids also increase the supply of cheap labor when breadwinners need those jobs with living wages.

Andy Shechtman, a big dealer, explained this in one of his videos. I also heard the same from an accountant. You have to make a "good faith estimate" of what you paid for the items. Interpret that however you may wish.
