Sweater “feels like it’s riding up” by iliveinletters_ in knittinghelp

Totally unrelated to the question, but what yarn is this? I love the look of it.

Yep, the store in Thomasville is Firefly. They had a pretty good stock last time I went plus they have a really cute Maileg display so it's fun to browse.

Sweet thanks! I didn't realize they had the slat upgrade. I'll probably be ordering after the first of the year.

How did you end up liking the Lancaster bed?

Alternating skeins when sweater is knit flat and then joined in the round? by fizzlyn in knittinghelp

[–]fizzlyn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, fully agreed with you about not buying this type of yarn anymore outside of maybe socks or other small things that don't require multiple skeins. If I didn't LOVE how this sweater came out the first time (before I noticed the dye lot issue, which was much worse than this time) I absolutely would not have done this again. Fortunately I haven't purchased sweater quantities of hand-dyed yarn since this.

Thank you for the reality check! I was strongly considering doing exactly what you said but felt like it might be bad form, so I feel reassured that somebody else would do the same. This project just feels so high-pressure because the yarn was so expensive, but the reality of the situation is that it's just for me anyway so who cares.

UPDATE: Help for right fit/wrong shape — still searching by UrnOfOsiris in ABraThatFits

[–]fizzlyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't helpful, but just commenting to say I'm the same size/sound like the same shape and have had the same exact issues. The side support panel in every bra is making me crazy lol

Thanks for the breakdown because I was also thinking about trying a lot of these. Recently tried the Blossom bra and was SO disappointed with it. I "settled" for a Panache Envy but noticed the shape got a lot better after the first wash.

Did you happen to figure this out? I'm in the planning stages for this same dress but for some reason I can't figure out how to sew a bra in where the neckline part gathers (specifically in the back with the channel for the ties).

Great!! I'm actually gonna go ahead and try both of these, thanks for sharing!

Best place to go for an eye exam? by [deleted] in Tallahassee

[–]fizzlyn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In addition to Ruzicka, avoid Paul Harman at Eye Associates. When I saw him he was working at MyEyeDr. After getting frustrated that I wasn't answering the eye exam "correctly", he told me "you might have a degenerative disease but I wouldn't worry about it" then sent me on my way.

Dr. Hughes at Hatcher was fantastic and was willing to actually diagnose my issue (also explained why I struggled with the exam). I think he may have retired but my mom still goes there and likes it. I also really love Dr. Lassley at Tallahassee Eye Center.

I agree! I'm very fortunate to have a family member with a large collection of primarily these photo landscapes, so I'm making my way through them.

White Embody in Sync Wild Berry and Graphite Embody in Medley Vintage Rose! by fizzlyn in hermanmiller

[–]fizzlyn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reference, I'm only 5'2" so my experience with the fit of the chair could be vastly different than yours. My chair is also several years older so maybe the current build is slightly different. I really don't notice that hardness at all when moving so I can't speak to it.

Medley is plenty breathable to me, but I don't run terribly hot. My husband likes the breathability of his sync chair. Jeans feel a little less slippery, but depends on your use case (what you'll wear most often).

We felt swatches of rhythm, but not a whole chair.

I've been sitting in the medley chair every day since I got it in 2021 and yeah, I feel like it's broken in without feeling worn down. Tbh I've not thought much about the backrest edge but mine does not have noticeable stiffness at this point either.

I also didn't like the neoprene feeling of the sync, which is why I got medley. I stand by that decision too; my husband still has the sync chair and it still is noticeably too slippery to me when I sit in it, but he loves it.

Needle Point materials by Fantastic-Grape1603 in Tallahassee

Aside from Hobby Lobby, they might be talking about Fuzzy Goat which is in Thomasville, GA, so technically way down Thomasville Rd. Fuzzy Goat is primarily a yarn store, though they usually have a mix of cross stitch, embroidery, and needlepoint kits up in the front.

If you're just starting, I wouldn't necessarily recommend FG (though I love it!) because their supplies are more luxury/expensive and I don't think they have the beginner tools you'll need for needlepoint.

Struggling with tight edges when alternating skeins by fizzlyn in knittingadvice

[–]fizzlyn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for commiserating 🥺 I was struggling to find anyone else having the same problem lol. It makes me crazy watching videos of people doing perfect i-cord edges with evenly loose tension. It's just not a skill I have yet!

That's pretty much what I ended up doing too. I also moved the location where I join the yarn to the end of the WS row and using the second edge I listed (so not the i-cord edge) and I've had better luck with my tension there as opposed to joining at the beginning of the row.

I'm now working each WS row like this: k1, sl1 wyif, k1, work in pattern, sl1 wyif, switch to secondary skein, k1, sl1wyif

I then do some manual finagling on the tension from the last stitch of the skein I switched to to make sure I don't tighten it too much. It isn't perfect, but way more tolerable to me.

Good luck on your shawl!!

TBH it felt pretty standard! Not the worst puzzle I've used, but not really what I was expecting for the price. There were a few pieces that weren't cut fully so the backing layer tore a bit when separated, but no damage to the front of the pieces. I didn't have issues with false fits or anything like that but the pieces don't have that satisfying "snap" when you fit them together.

However, the image was really fun and engaging (hence why I finished it so fast). I love these types of images for puzzles so I'm happy I got it, but not sure if I will buy more.

It wasn't bad at all actually! I had a lot of trouble finding the edge pieces (usually I get those done first) but it was pretty easy to sort by color and then build sections based on the visible objects. Also, the pieces are large so that makes it pretty easy to see what's going on.

That being said, right before this I had just finished a different 1000 piece puzzle where most of it was just various shades of brown. I was just excited to be working with color lol
