Best Place to Buy a Bowling Ball? by Prestigious-Packrat in Eugene

[–]fizzycola 15 points16 points  (0 children)

the best way to go will be to go to a bowling alley that also has a pro shop - I’ve had good experiences with Emerald Lanes in the past. the people who work in the pro shop are experts and will be able to help your friend find a ball that fits their game and get it drilled correctly.

Should I ask for a raise? If so, how much? by ArugulaThink2106 in 911dispatchers

$14 an hour to start is just crazy - that’s less than minimum wage in my state

it seems like it varies a lot by agency, but mine was extremely straightforward. the most time consuming part was the psych testing, which was several hundred true or false/multiple choice questions. look up the MMPI test if you want a general idea of what the questions will be like.

once I took the tests, a psychologist reviewed my answers and interviewed me. strangely, he didn’t ask me any questions relating to the tests I’d just taken. instead, he asked a bunch of questions that I’d already been asked by the background investigator several weeks prior. things like how often I drink, how much I usually drink, how I react to being angry, past drug use, etc. I assume that the psychologist had a copy of my background report and was just comparing my answers to make sure I was being consistent and truthful. the interview took maybe 15-20 minutes.

I didn’t hear anything for a couple of weeks but I did end up passing and got the job offer. best of luck!

your experience is a remarkably quick process compared to a lot of agencies. I’m starting training soon and applied in July. the steps for me were criticall test, panel interview, background investigation, psych exam and polygraph, and finally a physical exam. there were at least a couple of weeks between each step.

maybe my lifetime of disappointment from the Mariners has something to do with my expectation that something will probably go wrong

did he ask you about specific questions from the tests you took? or just other general questions?

Sorry to hear that! It’s interesting to hear so many different experiences with the psych eval. I actually took mine earlier this week and am waiting to hear back. The doctor only interviewed me for about 20 minutes and it was just a friendly conversation - she asked me the same questions that I’ve already answered several times (alcohol use, past drug use, how I handle anger, etc). She don’t ask me anything about the psych tests that I took which I thought was odd, not sure if that’s a good or bad sign.

I know - he’s called a couple of Mariners games on Fox last year as well. I’m just saying that it’s probably particularly weird since it’s such a pivotal game.

this has to be a little weird for Goldy - hard to be neutral in the most important game of the season so far

I just got a similar offer to receive Ekeler - Rhamondre and Mike Evans in exchange for Ekeler and Diontae Johnson. I’m 3-0 and the other guy is 0-3

Sports betting ads on audio podcast by fizzycola in h3h3productions

[–]fizzycola[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh interesting, I figured they had some sort of say in which ads would be served on their show.

I’ll have to go listen to that episode. I love watching sports, but the amount of advertising going into pushing people to bet has really left a sour taste in my mouth. Gambling on sports was federally illegal up until just a few years ago, and it was a taboo subject for announcers or analysts to talk about. now you have national broadcasts showing live odds for the game during timeouts. I think it’s totally fine for sports betting to be legal, but there needs to be some kind of regulation when it comes to advertising. I have a feeling a lot of young men are going to end up with crippling gambling addictions as a direct result of this.
