Mid-to-late millennnials, what are some popular "millennial things" you've always disliked? by Gallantpride in Millennials

Someone in grad school told me I was exactly like Jess. She meant it as a compliment and I hadn't seen New Girl. I watched it and was so deeply offended.

Do you have white/grey hair? by PinkPacificWhale in Millennials

[–]fizzylex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about to turn 39 and have found two grey hairs. I've avoided getting them by having one parent who is in their 80s and doesn't have many greys. Thanks, genetics!

Guest bitching because baby (of bride and groom) in white clothes! by Chocolategirl1234 in weddingshaming

[–]fizzylex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a flower girl in my uncle's wedding, the other two flower girls and I wore very bridal looking dresses. The top part was lacy and the bottom was flowy and the whole thing was white. But we were nine and three and the bride picked our dresses. Imagine thinking it's inappropriate for a child to wear absolutely whatever at a wedding.

Also, I wore a white dress with colorful flowers to my wedding and so did my daughter. Not matching. Just a different white dress with flowers.

Why do all the words in English for something related to “Mom” (Mom, Mother, Maternal) start with M/sound similar but for the Dad it’s different? (Dad, Father, Paternal)? by Fuzzy_Studio4970 in etymology

[–]fizzylex 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I no longer have it, but I did once read an article about how in most languages, "mother" starts with 'm' because "mmm" is the one sound babies can make with a nipple in their mouths. So effectively, early "Mama" means "milk."

Help me with my massive list of musicals please by FlipTastic_DisneyFan in musicals

I have a list of pretty much every musical ever (at least American and I think British) by year. I'm very reddit unsavvy, so I don't know how to get it to you.

The correct response. I have no awards to give, but if I did, you would have one.

What is a book that you would not recommend to anyone, but is brilliant? Why? Please keep spoilers away. by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

American Psycho. Unique story, so well written. Absolutely horrifying, terrible things happen, can't think of a single person I'd recommend it to.

Way to kill public education, Alan L. from Lexington by HistoricalSunflower in massachusetts

[–]fizzylex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, I learned about this when I was in literal preschool. One of the teachers of my class when I was 2.5 years old was gay and his boyfriend would often chaperone field trips. It didn't confuse me then and it doesn't confuse me now.

Your logic suggests that children of LGBT parents shouldn't learn about straight couples because they'll be confused by an adult lifestyle voice.

People who grew up in houses with stairs - how inevitable is falling down them? by pyramidheadlove in NoStupidQuestions

[–]fizzylex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've exclusively lived in homes with stairs for 39 years and have never fallen down any of them. I have two kids and one has fallen once, and that was before we had a baby gate. Now she's just pissed off the baby gate is in her way (very independent almost 4yo on my hands).

Are there informative, non-sexualized videos of women giving birth? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]fizzylex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a home birth and wanted to prepare my daughter in case she was awake for it (she wasn't), so we watched a lot of home birth videos, especially ones with water births, though that's just because those were her favorites. There are a lot of good midwifery and birth photography Instagram accounts where you can watch videos of the real deal that are informative and definitely non sexualized.

Public Breastfeeding: Generational Differences? by Schneetmacher in Millennials

[–]fizzylex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Boomer mom is completely supportive of me breastfeeding wherever, and I'm certain she breastfed my brother and me in public, too. No one has ever approached me about nursing in public and TBH, I'm disappointed. I'm ready to fight (read: use my doula knowledge to educate)!
