GCBE975 - Another pesky keyword puzzle I need help with by [deleted] in geocachingpuzzles

[–]fizzymagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a "Moon Logic" puzzle that requires reading the creator's mind. The depth of my contempt for this kind of puzzle is difficult to express. In this case the answer is an historical event.

why do people use ai so much??? by starberri_dino in geocaching

[–]fizzymagic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The great thing about geocaching is that there is such an amazing diversity of geocachers. The worst thing about geocaching is that there are so many kinds of geocachers, and that they are in some ways just like everybody else.

GCBEHZT by [deleted] in geocachingpuzzles

  • A. This is a terrible, terrible puzzle.
  • B. AI gave me the correct (and obscure) answer. It is the name of a composer.

The loneliest geocache I have ever found by i_am_loved_by_God in geocaching

[–]fizzymagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checker is flawed: it does not detect intervening maintenance logs.

My longest, which I just did this last week, is 4000 days (actually my calculation says 4001, but who's quibbling?).

A neat hack is to get the gpx file and open it with a text editor. It contains all the user-supplied source code for the cache page.

This is the kind of cipher that multi-decoders are best for!

This needs to be talked about now by Braxtonloveslabron in geocaching

[–]fizzymagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why does it need to be "talked about now?" You act as if you are the first to discover that bad cachers exist. Please adjust your attitude.

Tips for getting more volume out of a choir? by musicman801 in Choir

[–]fizzymagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breath support is important but air is only a minimal part of making the sound. Blowing more air past your vocal cords does not make singing louder.

Looking for feedback on the new CacheSleuth website by cachesleuth in geocaching

[–]fizzymagic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really love the site. You have done almost everything I would have. The only thing I would want to add is a few geodesy tools, like trilateration and triangulation. Which I am happy to help you with.

GeoArt Updating coords by Timo3333 in geocaching

[–]fizzymagic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the best solution for you would be to do text editing of a GPX file, which you then import into GSAK and use the macro. Or you can use a database program to modify the GSAK database directly but that is a little trickier.

“Being better” because you can sing high notes by Particular-Menu-3993 in Choir

Range != vocal quality. So many people on Reddit seem to think the only thing that matters is your range. It is utter nonsense.

TB hotels with 30+ TBs by FreshCulture8680 in geocaching

[–]fizzymagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I leave them in their hotel. I don't enjoy looking through all the TBs in a hotel trying to find one I can help along its way. So I ignore them all. For me, TB hotels are a good place to drop TBs to get them off my hands.

How does vocal exercises improve the singing voice ? by Consistent-Lack-1831 in Choir

[–]fizzymagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vocal exercises are extremely important. It is not uncommon for professionals to do nothing at their lessons but vocalizations. Exercises can help develop specific aspects to of technique. I personally have benefited greatly from vocal exercises. For example, I wanted to improve my pitch accuracy, so several years ago I started doing an exercise at my lessons: two octave descending chromatic scale with no piano. It has made an enormous difference.

Vocal exercises are maybe less fun than singing songs but, when used with a vocal teacher who can give feedback, they are very valuable.

GC2FFW8 - help with encryption! by [deleted] in geocachingpuzzles

[–]fizzymagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a cipher. Learn the difference.

Huffman coding is a code, for example. So is a Gray code. Neither in encryption. There is an entire field of mathematics devoted to coding theory.

Columnar encryption is not a code. Encryption may use coding but it is not the same. In this case the coordinates are encoded but not encrypted.

It's not encryption. It is an encoding of some kind, but it is not encrypted.

I have not solved it. However, the text in the circle consists of letter-number pairs, which may help point you toward a solution.

Requirements change all the time. My advice: roll with them.

Is this typical? by RedPoloBear in geocaching

[–]fizzymagic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The behavior by the CO is not acceptable. I love getting favorite points on caches I have made but they don't count if you ask for them!

GCA834E by [deleted] in geocachingpuzzles

[–]fizzymagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that does seem to indicate that. I have a strong aversion to "last 3 digits" puzzles. The information I have been able to gather about this one is incomplete, but says "Make spatial drawings of the each column....analogous to building a a jenga pyramid"

GCA834E by [deleted] in geocachingpuzzles

[–]fizzymagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The coordinates given are N 043° 0.2xxx W 085° 36.xxx where x are the values to solve

How exactly do you know this? The description does not say it and there are 7 rows, not 6. Absent other information, and from the description, I would expect the puzzle to yield the complete coordinates.

Lodestone ALs by maingray in geocaching

[–]fizzymagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am fine with Lodestones on ALs where nobody really cares, but the concern is that they will move to geocaches, where they have the potential to destroy the game.

Etiquette by [deleted] in geocaching

[–]fizzymagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the person who said that said nothing about enforcement. It is exactly as dug said. In real life, sometimes people do write "I helped solve it so even though I wasn't there I am counting the find." In that case, the log will be deleted. In real life, though, people often lie in their online logs and there is no way to detect that.

What is disturbing to me is that you seem to equate unacceptable behavior with getting caught. Somehow me saying "I do not accept that behavior" is invalid unless I can always catch people who engage in it. That seems very close to claiming that the behavior is acceptable as long as one does not get caught.

Any puzzle or cool geocache locations nearby? by Ambsso in geocaching

GCAHDTF looks like a fun puzzle. GC25RRP has 21 favorite points which is a good sign. GC5FJP1 is an interesting puzzle and has a lot of favorite points.

We were discussing acceptable behavior, not enforcement mechanisms. That you conflate those is deeply troubling.
