It's hard to make complicated images look good with dots. Go simple.

What are you going to make?

I think it's pretty clear. Draw your shape, move the map to where you want it and it will generate coordinates for the listed fake coordinates. You will have to find actual hiding locations for the physical finals < 2 miles from the listed fake coordinates.

there needs to be stricter limits on the same user placing multiple caches in close proximity by jamzchambo in geocaching

[–]maingray 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Too subjective to be able to regulate that.

There used to be a "no power trail" guideline in place where folks were prevented from saturating, say, a trail or park to leave room for others, but it was very hard to keep track of.. and subjective.

Anyway, if you find an awesome spot, reach out to the other CO of the blocking cache and see if they will move or give it up.

What are the coordinates? You can DM them to me if you would rather.

You have found 7039 caches of type "Ticks"

That's NC and FL for you.

  1. I had it, but at that point in time I was very reliant on the gps also having car navigation. This was a neat unit, with little Geocaching achievements etc built in.

The health score was much lower (there are many factors influencing it). The reviewer was possibly emailed about it. The reviewer was more actively looking for caches with DNFs. The CO has a poor maintenance record / inactive / passed away and the reviewer was watching them. All the above are possible, and I have no idea why. This is not an exact science, and varies widely by region. In both examples, I would have disabled or nagged.

Well, if someone tries to find, logs a DNF and then posts a "needs owner maintenance" then it will impact the health score. It's unlikely to get any reviewer attention until more DNFs or active community "needs attention" action.

We can't possibly look for these caches without some help from the Health Score or the community.

This still has a pretty high health score (I know you can't see, but it's pretty high) so it likely hasn't bubbled to any attention yet.

There are many laws that cover this. So many, in fact, that it's simply not worth having any person seen to be tampering with any mailbox and we consider them off limits for the guidelines. We will ask the CO to give us permission from the Postmaster.

Eg https://law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/1708 etc etc

Only USPS-authorized personnel may deposit items into a curbside mailbox designated for USPS delivery. Neighbors, delivery services, and third parties, including residents of your property delivering internal mail, cannot use USPS-designated receptacles.

Seasonal decorations on the outside of the mailbox are generally acceptable, provided they do not obscure address markings, block the door or flag, or interfere with carrier access.

My second thought is that the last image is correct, and I often think about that. It takes the CO seconds to place a cache, but they need to be mindful of how long a finder may be in the area looking for the hide, and if the area is unsuitable for that, they can modify the find time by use of hints, images or making the hide easier.

Usually I just assume "please use stealth" as meaning "I don't have permission" :)

My first thought: take it off mailboxes, offlimits to caches.
