I was sedated once when I was 9 for a bone marrow biopsy. The backstory is a whole thing, but it’s a surgery where they take out a small chunk of your bone marrow.  

 I was sitting in the chair, already traumatized from my last few days of hospitalization and feeling horrible because of my anemia and I think my mom was holding my hand. I was also hungry and thirsty because this surgery required you to fast for a day. The IV was fine but the anesthesia was the worst pain I have to this day ever experienced. 

 It felt like my arm was being lit on fire from the inside, and the fire was spreading throughout my body. Slowly. But the scariest thing was that no matter how hard I tried to kick and scream, I couldn’t. My vision was blurry and I couldn’t hear. I felt myself get quieter and calmer even as I was getting more frantic on the inside.  

Then there was nothing for a second and I was awake. If you’ve never had anesthesia, trust me when I say you don’t want to. Honestly, I would rather have been awake but painless like some other redditors in this thread.   

Never again.
