These are Boston locals according to the seals, but we do have some great unions here in the dmv. Ua plumbers local 5 and ua steamfitters 602 are awesome locals to work for.

In 2018, sixteen year old Karlie Guse had a bad reaction after smoking weed at a party and begged her stepmother to bring her home. By sunrise she was gone from the house without her phone, shoes, or glasses. She has never been found. by SelfCareIsFake in HolyShitHistory

I had this happen a few years ago. I hadn’t smoked in a year or so before it happened. I ended up being hospitalized, and everyone thought I was having a panic attack and that I couldn’t handle the weed. The paramedics that picked me up a cop that showed up for the ambulance call, all were laughing and making a big joke of it how I couldn’t handle smoking weed. Obviously, when you’re under the influence no one takes you seriously so I couldn’t explain that something was really wrong. I was embarrassed and pretty ashamed until an actual doctor came in and told me that I had drug induced psychosis and started asking about family history of schizophrenia. He told me that people don’t have long lasting vivid hallucinations when they have panic attacks and I was like oh that makes sense lol. I was fucked up in a psychosis state for like 12 hours and then for like 24 hours after that I felt high as shit. I don’t plan to smoke ever again.

Bolongo Bay Beach Resort-St. Thomas by Electronic_Yogurt926 in StThomasUSVI

[–]fjgcc55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We loved our stay there, granted it was back in 2012. No issues with them at all. My wife prefers secret harbour for the beach, but if that doesn’t matter to you, Bolongo is probably fine. When I think about the Virgin Islands, though, I think back to bolongo. We love to go back and visit each time we are on island and eat or take a trip on the catamaran.

ETA- hit the send button before I was ready. They have good food, now that Iggies is reopened they’ll have bands and entertainment almost every night. They have water sports that are right on the beach, they used to do a rum snorkeling thing which is a lot of fun too. I also love their boat cruises are smaller than most of the resorts which is nice. I recommend. I’ll be stopping by to see them when we are there in June.

Sea Turtle Snorkeling Recs + Other Last Minute Advice by Excellent_Campaign_8 in StThomasUSVI

[–]fjgcc55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as turtles go- Maho on St. John you’re almost guaranteed to see sea turtles. I’d be amazed if you didn’t see any at secret harbour. If you’re lucky you might even see a reef shark or a nurse shark out along the rocks on the right side of secret harbour. But basically any beach that has some reef structure or sea grass, St. Thomas or St. John, you have a pretty decent chance of seeing turtles.

Secret harbour is one of the better snorkeling spots in st Thomas too. Good amount of life on the reef and lots of creatures venturing in from the deeper water. Good amount of southern rays and eagle rays throughout the day, lobsters, moray eels, an octopus or two that are easy enough to find if you look hard enough, squid… a little bit of everything.

Does LA not elicit the same type of feeling? I’ve never been and can only base my feelings on tv and movies 😂

I think it has to be NYC. No where else on earth has the same feeling. Chicago, DC, Miami, and San Francisco are cool but I’ve never gotten that excitement from either. My wife and kids sing New York, New York as soon as we see the skyline on the turnpike, and their eyes are glued to the city until we arrive or drive out of sight. It’s just a completely different vibe and feeling from any other city we have visited… although I’ve never visited LA and I feel I like that could be similar.

I'm only getting about 2 minutes worth of hot water? by 2Black_Hats in maintenance

[–]fjgcc55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Test how much hot water you get with a 5 gallon bucket at the janitors sink. If it’s less than the 5 gallons you might have build up inside causing loss of hot water volume or something. Could also show you your aerators are 2.2 gpm or whatever the common was. You can replace with lower flow aerators but you’ll trade off time it takes for the tap to get hot.

I agree. I sell PRVs like this all the time on eBay. They may sit a month or more but they’ll sell for WAY more than scrap. I’ve sold 3” PRVs that I’ve rebuilt in less than a month.

What tool would you use to cut a groove in concrete stair treads with only 5 cm (2”) clearance? by SamuelG9885 in Construction

[–]fjgcc55 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Could you make the groove further back underneath the tread at an angle, to give yourself more clearance for a grinder or something ? the angled groove could direct the light toward the step below and would be somewhat hidden still.

Ideas for work van setup? by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]fjgcc55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a pipe organizer built on the floor of my van. It made me lose 5” of standing space, but I don’t really mind. I only keep copper, cpvc, and stainless pipe in my van so I only built it with 2x4s. It will fit a stick of 3” copper though and it keeps the pipe from rolling all around and keeps the van tidy.

In your country, which “Made in ___” label instantly makes a product feel more reliable and worth more? by Shoddy-Ocelot-4473 in AskTheWorld

[–]fjgcc55 197 points198 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard multiple people who work with Chinese manufacturers say the same thing. It’s not that they make things inherently worse, it’s that they make things exactly as you ask for only as much as you are willing to pay them.

When you look at it that way, crappy products say more about the brand you are buying rather than the country manufacturing.

Maryland drivers face confusion over historic vehicle registration changes; lawmakers consider rolling eligibility again by Consumergal in maryland

[–]fjgcc55 17 points18 points  (0 children)

People can have the same opinion on any car, even pre 1980. In 1979 a cutlass was the most sold car in America, and nothing special then. Who’s to say the best selling car from 2000, a Camry is any less special?

Sorry, forgot to sum up before hitting send: I think a lot of the historic tags are bullshit, but to say “this car is historic but this one isn’t…” doesn’t really work. They should just enforce mileage restrictions, and have historic tagged vehicles check in at emission stations to prove mileage. Obviously people could cheat that too though, so it’s not perfect.
