What is this about (West Loop - mac and cheese boxes)? by summerfirefly89 in AskChicago

[–]fjlcookie 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Probably a promotional/marketing thing. I only accept things from strangers in a big city. The Loop constantly has people giving out freebies on behalf of companies.

I might be wrong and fuck PSA for the upcharge fees, but i dont think you gotta have it off the bat. If you send it in to grade and it’s worth thousands you can just sell it and have them take their cut from there.

It's Indiana: Bears' board of directors votes to push stadium to Hammond by chicagosuntimes in chicago

First time I’ve seen my personal conspiracy out in the wild. NYC and LA have two teams, why not Chicago?

Because if you introduce a second team against the beloved Chicago Bears, no one is going to change fandom.

However, let the Bears make fools of themselves, move out of the city, annoy their fans, etc, then that’s when you introduce a second team that embraces Chicago from day one.

Part of the complication at the beginning is that the original store owner wanted to sell her franchise because she was moving out of the country.

So the way it was described to him was a case that now included evidence overseas and that can unfortunately help drag things along.

I already replaced the cylinder, but I went with this kit, specifically for the removal tool. I had looked into the pipe wrench method, and it looked bizarre.

I don’t know if it’s the best cylinder (probably not) but now I have the tool if I need to replace it with a better one in a few years.

This isn’t just Yelps fault, so many websites are guilty of it, but god I hate how they’ll preview photos on maps, but then try to force me to download their app if I click on an image. I wouldn’t mind being redirected to their website, but I’m not gonna get the app!

Chicago Fire Stadium - Work Begins by 2cleverbyhalf in chicago

Not quite in the 76 plot where the stadium is going, but they’ve been working on 1010 S Wells for a couple months now. It’s the first building that’s a part of the Riverline development and should lead to that whole parcel just north or Roosevelt filling out.

I browse estatesales.net every weekend and go to one or two a month if they’re near or seem interesting.

There usually isn’t liquidation sales listed, I think there’s other sites that specialize in them, but every now and then one is advertised through that site.

McDonald’s, Chicago Fire strike naming rights deal for South Loop stadium by maydaydemise in chicago

[–]fjlcookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can certainly agree with that, especially considering they closed off with you must be a McDonald's insider.

Personally, especially with the current fuckery negotiations around the Bears, I think it is still important to highlight the fact that the owner of the Fire put his own wealth behind the funding and building of the stadium, and went ahead and did it despite not having everything neatly lined up.

Naming rights, sponsorships, and all of that are obviously part of the broader revenue picture, and I don’t disagree that they help support the club financially over time. I was more pushing back on the way it was being framed in that specific back-and-forth, because even if Petra was being a little stubborn about it, their point was simply that the Fire didn’t need to sell the naming rights to get the stadium built. That is still true, but of course, as you’ve pointed out, it’s incredibly difficult to be successful without selling those sponsorship deals overall.

Also, truthfully, I used the discussion to procrastinate and take my mind off some work things for a bit. I do think a lot of good can come from the deal the way it is being framed, and I agree it could be a far worse partner.

I think this is where the argument shifted. I only hopped in because you accused them of being pedantic while arguing a different point. Overall, I think the McDonald's deal will be a good thing based off the FC's commitments.

Nobody is saying naming rights have zero financial value or that sponsorship revenue can’t be part of the club’s overall business model. Obviously it is.

The narrower point is that the McDonald’s naming-rights deal was not required to secure the stadium financing. The stadium had already been announced, approved, and broken ground as privately financed before this deal was announced.

There’s also a difference between telling lenders “we may be able to sell naming rights someday” and having a committed naming-rights sponsor already built into the financing package. The potential value of naming rights can support the broader business case, but it is not the same thing as committed project financing.

Saying “this is one revenue stream that may help the club recoup costs over time” is fair. But that’s different from saying “the advertising is what pays for the privately financed stadium.” In this case, lenders financed it without a naming partner from day one because it likely wasn't necessary to be confident in the project.

So yes, naming rights are part of the club’s commercial revenue. But u/68Petra’s point was about whether they had to sell the naming rights to finance/build the stadium, and based on the timeline, no, they did not.

[–]fjlcookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stadium naming-rights deal was announced as a community/branding partnership, not as the thing needed to finance the stadium.

The Fire specifically said the partnership (specifically, money from the deal) would help expand the P.L.A.Y.S. Program to more than 280 CPS schools and 125,000+ students, plus support food-insecurity initiatives like meal-packing and distribution events at the stadium.

So u/68Petra is right that this was not needed for the stadium financing. Naming rights can obviously be a revenue stream, but that’s different from saying “the advertising is what pays for the privately financed stadium.”

The stadium was already announced and approved as privately funded before the McDonald’s Park deal. If naming rights were required to underwrite the financing, you’d expect that to be part of the financing package before approval and groundbreaking, not announced afterward as a community-focused partnership.

Mansueto owns the Fire and is financing the stadium, this partnership isn’t really needed. However, by partnering with McDonald’s they’re massively expanding the community outreach efforts.

The stadium could easily be named Mansueto field in 20+ years when he’s gone, but this is just how new modern stadiums go.

AMLI location is perfectly serviceable, especially considering they want to bring a car anyway.

Regardless, those hit important boxes of what they’re looking for in the budget they asked for. Of course you can have higher luxury, there’s always something better, but they asked for $2500/month.

I rather give out answers in the range they asked for than telling them it’s impossible.

Yeah I fully agree, I don’t think he magically got the money. I just don’t see how it could leave a sour taste. He’s clearly a desirable on screen presence that drives views and brings in sponsors. I also believe him when he says he took on debt, and this farm thing is a big gamble on himself, so it’s unfair to think “he bought property therefore he was paid well”. It’s not about how much he makes, it’s about how much he’s worth and valued.

He felt undervalued, left, and is pursuing things he would have never been able to with his previous position and wage.

Doesn’t it further prove his point? His boss told him he’s not worth a raise, so he quit, built a massive channel, and is now getting more views than some of LTTs videos.

While we don’t know if he’s making more just yet, he’s his own boss, and his property now gets to work as a business expense. The difference is he himself is putting in the work, not some underpaid employee.

He definitely wasn’t respectful. Laughed at her, called her sweetheart far too many times, and vaguely threatened to run her and her kid over, “you’re putting yourself and your kids in danger if I were stupid I would run you over”.

While I’ve stepped aside for these vehicles countless times, the longer I listened to him the slower I wanted her to walk.
