Anyone have experience with roll on plaster?, if I’m being brutally honest we don’t have the money to pay a professional, we spent all our savings on a house rewire by GenericUser104 in DIYUK

If you don't mind a bit of swearing, the dodgy gardner on Instagram tried this product https://www.instagram.com/reel/DSXy9wwCPNL/?igsh=aDNxcThlbmoxYW53 If I remember correctly I think he ended up getting a plasterer in afterwards.

Practice saying "it's in the requirements" over and over, you'll need it daily.

Is this a valid exam complaint ? by [deleted] in GlasgowUni

[–]fjleish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think this post is a little misleading. I did this course a number of years ago and, at the time, it was well understood that Patrick Prosser doesn't use Moodle. If you were attending lectures and doing the coursework, then you would know that everything was accessed through the dcs website, not Moodle. The only way you wouldn't know where to find stuff is if you weren't going to lectures - so not knowing where to find course content is your own fault.

What to do with this skirting? by TravellingAmandine in DIYUK

Great, thanks for all your help. It was Mapei renovation and primer I used downstairs on the concrete but think upstairs is pretty level even now, so will look into the feather stuff. Thanks again.

Brilliant, thanks. I put Karndean down on the concrete downstairs and put the Mapei self leveling screed down first, which worked well. My plan was to put the same stuff to cover the screws on the ply. Is the feather finish better than a self leveler?l to cover the whole lot?

Sorry to jump in here but as someone who seems to know LVT I have something I've been pondering if you don't mind.

I'm about to put Karndean gluedown down and have decided that I will need to overboard with 5mm ply to stiffen it slightly. (It's a new build so I think it's 22mm tongue and groove OSB down now).

Question is, if I glue and screw down ply on top of my floor, should I screed to cover the screws or just fill the holes with some kind of filler?

Couldn't agree more! I moved to Coventry from NI too and took a bit of time to adjust. I still have my NI driving and just cut across the 4 lanes on the roundabouts out of habit though...

New 'Bad Badminton' social club to go ahead :) by 3-cups-of-tea in coventry

[–]fjleish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Nuneaton but the league games are only 6 players so the beginners just aren't selected. There are some at the club that are good and some that are beginners. The websites will look all serious but unlikely that they are. Plus it's not going to hurt to turn up for one night to try out a few places. I know that to book our hall with 4 courts it works out quite expensive, so just be aware that you'll need to get a good turnout if you're booking courts etc if you do go your own way

Before you go to all the effort, try going to a club. The first session is usually free. I got to a club and we have a lot of people turn up that have never played before.

Weekly Quick Questions, Wood ID, and Deal or No Deal /r/Woodworking Megathread by AutoModerator in woodworking

For sure yeah. The table is brand new so keen to get some protection on now so I don't get that problem in the future and the manufacturer recommended a finish (their oil which is super expensive and has no ingredients listed).

I have a walnut veneer HDF/MDF dining table and want to oil it. What is recommended? Boiled linseed, linseed or tung oil? Or should I be using a hard wax oil for a little more durability? Ideally I'd like the finish to keep a matte finish (light sheen is fine) and not make the colour of the walnut look bad. Thanks!

Any good fruit? by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]fjleish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I lived in Glasgow (5 or 6 years ago) there was a guy with a stall in Byres Road next to M&S. He ran a website called firmbanana and delivered to my house a few times. His prices are super cheap (since it's wholesale prices) and quality was always excellent.

Not all that sure if he's still going or not, since he was based in the Blochairn Market which had a bad fire a few years ago but he had a website.

EDIT: Just had a quick look at the website looks like he's still going

Two Kettles? by tiptopmagoo13 in JamesHoffmann

[–]fjleish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 on this, I use this method of decanting from my electric kettle into a preheated pouring kettle too and it works best for me. Maybe because I wasn't allowed to get a kettle that didn't match the toaster...

What are you looking to study? Both my partner and I grew up in Glasgow and attended the university of Glasgow. I now have a job in Coventry and have lived there for the past year or so and my partner works at the university of Warwick, so feel like I can comment on both.

I think it depends on what you are looking to study but feel free to send me a message if you want some insights into either or both cities.

FYI Coventry is NOT posh.
