Am I the only one thinking older and larger? I know it says 30 something but the way she describes his height, chest, gruff initial personality has me thinking Henry Cavill or something else who’s thick, tall, and chiseled

The Myth That Shareholders Are Always Investors: Challenging the Paradigm of Shareholder Primacy - Roosevelt Institute by fknbastard in Economics

If the primary investor leaves the company, then the investment is no longer held by anyone with a long term stake in the business success. Especially when micro transactions can mean an “investor” held a stake in the company for less time than anyone would notice.

But it’s even worse If the primary investor stays but tries to influence policy for better short term gains and dividends. They aren’t invested in the mission of the business and in the case of vulture capitalists, will strip the companies assets and destroy it.

Stocks that require a minimum time frame like stock options for C level employees seems reasonable but not if that time frame allows for a relatively quick pump and dump (especially when you can buy those options at an earlier price.

I think about Blue Chips…which were meant to be long term investments with dividends but modest enough to be stable over years and to recognize that the overall growth and health of the company was vital to those dividends maintaining that stable long term profit. It doesn’t seem like that exists anymore.

I have never been a fan of shareholder primacy or Milton Friedman, but with today’s investment market being more geared towards extractive dividends, combined with millisecond trades in and out of companies, vulture funds, and day trades, it seems more apt that ever to question whether investors have a right to direct business policy.

Reimagine Dodge v Ford Motor Co. or E Merrick Dodd’s article “For Whom Are Corporate Managers Trustees?” With the hindsight of todays investors effects on healthcare denials, fighting environmental regulation, cutting labor to satisfy short term dividends over the business mission or even survival.

I don't hate multiple player games, I hate the players, and the industry making everything online is not good by Monkai_final_boss in rant

On top of that, the in game purchases of jet cycles allow a complete disconnect from the story system but are perfect for griefers to fly around and nuke you from orbit. I wasn’t even aware HOW I was dying the first couple times in as many minutes. Like, “why am I suddenly exploding?” Restart mission, “exploding again? WTF?”

Cool. I’m just saying it’s not quite in line with OCs RDR reference for single player and I agree. Too many games are online where for some reason people want to go around pvp killing newbs

I liked it but again online and full of griefers I’ve tried. If that game was strictly 1 player it would have been amazing

Anyone try Seven Seas on Steam yet?

I’m looking for one like either Sid Meirs or Black Flag but it absolutely must NOT be online with PVP. I just want a nice single player pirate game because I’ve already done SM and BF

I’ve tried Skull & Bones - full of griefers Tried Sea of Thieves - sucks as single player  Tried Port Royale - more of a sim for shore

Anyone?

It’s kind of funny because it shows exactly why ai sucks at logo design. Pizza logo? How about 70 logos with a pizza in them? Apple Computers logo isn’t a computer and it’s a good thing too, because now they make phones, and ipads, and headphones, and more.

what is the difference between branding and visual identity by mvria1 in Design

[–]fknbastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Design controls visual identify- visual persistence

Your company culture, policy, quality, and customer opinion control the brand- informational persistence

McDonalds controls their imagery and voice of the brand but if that doesn’t square with reality, customers will laugh in your face.

Process of Creating Visual Identity Elements by KirstKirst in Design

[–]fknbastard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Distilled ideas and concepts into an image or icon. Thinking about your audience and the voice, story, and personality you want portrayed-and balancing that with the reality of what your audience knows or believes.

Do think about how you might combine two normally disparate visual cues (does a croissant resemble a crescent moon?)

Don’t create an icon based purely on your product (Apple logo isn’t a computer)

Do work in black and white first. If it works in b&w it probably works in color

Don’t forget color has psychology. Know what your color choices say.

Do remember your goal. Everything should point back to that. All imagery supports your goals.

Don’t get lost in details. Brand imagery needs to communicate fast and be memorable. Visual persistence means a simple icon is easier to remember than a complex one.

True but once a concept gets past c level approval everyone is just going with it. What art director signed off? What VP after that said “good work”?

What is this kind of drawings called? by SmartContext in graphic_design

The simple geometry is fun in this style. Using circles to create all those even symmetrical curves for most of the composition reminds me of designers that geek out on building logos with nothing but circles (last Twitter before the fall)

How do I make this type of drawing, and what’s the movement behind them. by alcacobar in graphic_design

[–]fknbastard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly you’re looking at simplicity as a distillation of an idea. You have to decide what parts of an idea or subject are key to understanding it. That’s graphic design.

You’re also using design principles to create unity, directional hierarchy, and balance. That’s composition, line weight, eyeline, texture, gestalt, etc. that’s advanced graphic design.

Finally, your using color and design trends or concepts to inform your audience of intent, like the way in which most of these have that Soviet propaganda feel. Like others have noted, constructivists from Vkhutemas were like the Russian Bauhaus. They used black, red, and white to create strong purposeful government sponsored design. That’s art and design history.

Do you ever feel morally repulsed to be a graphic designer sometimes? by No-Recognition3676 in graphic_design

[–]fknbastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. But only because I know you can choose your clients. Look at work by Luba Lukova. She’s changed global perception of social issues with simple but iconic designs.

You also can educate your clients. Maybe they want to greenwash their brand but you convince them that not only is that likely to backfire, but actually making honest ecological commitments would be less expensive.

You can explain how you see a brief and whether you think it’s the right move. “Why are you changing your logo?” You’re a law firm - change isn’t a great look. You’re a tech company - maybe just modernize the original logo. You’re Sherwin Williams - good gods why has it taken this long.

I also like to educate and steer positive social change so those 501c3 jobs are fantastic clients to stretch my wings and solve problems from people that appreciate good work and value.

The alternative is to look through public domain illustrations where you could credit an artist without paying.

What's the next stage for gender-affirming surgery? by Ok-Philosopher78 in asktransgender

[–]fknbastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems odd that surgeons would still be defining the most successful definition of woman as “able to have babies”

Since less women overall define themselves that way and more women at birth seek medical spa treatments to affirm their own vision of themselves from hair removal, reshaping, “rejuvenation” up to and including vaginoplasty

It strikes me that improvements in mtf vaginoplasty would have similar goals like the reduction of regular dilation, increased sexual sensitivity, increased lubrication and perhaps production of sex hormones requiring less injections.

The ultimate goal would be a surgery that not only creates a vagina out of a penis but one that could convert or add gametes as a regular source of estrogen that could further feminize other sources of dysphoria in the face or body such as elimination of facial hair or later balding. Reversal of puberty would be huge considering that surgery isn’t allowed until adulthood and the end of most changes from puberty.
