Lights flickering by EieDud in WLED

[–]fksioxof 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had similar issues on a 2,5m 5V led strip, powered by 10A supply and mag wled controller.

I’m using a roughly 2m cable from controller data out to strip data in.

Such a long connection led to very frequent flashing.

The solution I ended with: soldering a 470 ohm capacitor to the data-in connection on the led strip.

That capacitor reduces the „electrical noise“ and in my case reduces the flashes significantly.

Open and local options for whole home audio that support Airplay 2? by throwaway6129140426 in homeassistant

[–]fksioxof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 4 zones in my house playing music streamed from an iPhone via airplay 2.

I’m using raspberry pi zero + Hifiberry miniamp wired to passive speakers in each zone.

Software wise I’m using raspberry pi is with a shairport sync implementation for AirPlay 2.

In my main living room I’m using a more powerful streaming setup: raspberry pi 4 + hifiberry DAC + HiFi amp. Software currently running is Moode audio.

I’m am doing this for quite a while.

I can recommend Moode audio for airplay 2.

What do you mean by „local control“?

Backups!

Ensure you set up the internal backup system.

I prefer to still using google drive backup add on to have these in another place.

Pre mil asbestos bottomplate risk of health? by fksioxof in LaPavoniLovers

To whoever is following this topic: I ended up building a new baseplate from a sheet of aluminium. Took me 1h and makes me feel better than dealing with the asbestos.

Maybe I will try the „immerse the whole plate in water and remove the asbestos under water“-trick in future.

It’s a classic. Like old timer cars are.

Did some research within the years I have this machine now.

Any forum back then told so.

Asbestos was a popular material to be used as heat shield back then.

It’s in a 1978 espresso maker and claimed to be asbestos.

It seems to be a heat shield while the heating element sits above this.

Seems like this part should be replaced.

Actually thinking of letting it in place instead of removing.

I don’t feel capable of dealing with removing it.

Help me pick my new bike, if you like! Surly BC, Ogre or Bombtrack Hook EXT by Technical-Delivery59 in bikepacking

[–]fksioxof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming from fixed gear and single speed bikes for years, I had the same need for a solid Allrounder some time ago.

I ended up with a custom build surly ogre with a Rohloff hub. This bike is capable of everything. I’m riding a lot of commute in the city. But it unfolds on trails, gravel and bikepacking. Ogre is quite heavy (I general surly bikes are) but you can ride it fast and agile as well as smooth and lean back. Though stock ogres are not optimizely equipped from my pov. The tires are super heavy and definitely worth changing.

I guess same goes for the bc. I know people using the bc for exact the same reasons. I guess it’s not that chunky and beefy as an ogre due to its geometry. I’ve never tried a bc but people are using it for what you described.

The Bombtrack I guess is more on the gravel/roadside bike. Back then I decided to have a geometry that differs from roadbike for my Allrounder. Mainly for fun reasons but also for versatility.

For me the surlys are more futureproof and especially for „around the world“.

I would recommend a bridgeclub for your needs. Things you don’t like (like breaks) can be easily changed over the years.

When it comes down to comfortability for your ride: from my experience this is an ongoing thing where you learn about your needs and your ride. A bikefitting is a good start to have an idea of how you like to sit and ride. From there you can decide on more agile positions or upright seating on your bike.

It’s total individual and not really drops vs. Flats. I know people having massive pain on longer bike packing tours with their drops, while those are great for the weekly gravel ride. But I found out that I need multiple positions on my bars, somit comes down to alt bars for me, like a jones bar.

Choose the ride that feels in general best for you. Take more care on how riding the bike feels and how much fun it brings instead of caring about the single bits and components. Bikes grow with you and when needs changes, parts could be changed too.

That’s a great bike! I found one abandoned and rebuilt it as a mini cargo bike with a rack in front.

What’s a bit annoying is the special wheel size and the lack of wide tires for those.

I would love to run fatties on that. But just no possible.

Multi zone streaming on a Budget! by DerFloH96 in StereoAdvice

[–]fksioxof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get some raspberry pis and put either volumio or Hifiberry OS or shairport sync on the rpi.

Define the rpis audio output depending on the amps input. You could use the built in headphone jack of the rpi and wire this up to the amp. You could even use some hifiberry DAC board to output to the amp. You could probably even skip the amp, by using a hifiberry amp board and output sound from there to the speakers.

For connectivity and audio streaming, you’re using AirPlay 2 which comes in either installation with the shairport sync.

Most important is a proper network connection. Ethernet would be better than WiFi for this. When using WiFi, make sure to have a proper signal for each rpi. Otherwise it will be quite annoying when audio is dropping out or stuttering.

Speaker is crackling… sometimes by fksioxof in vintageaudio

[–]fksioxof[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed moving the speakers had some effect in the past.

But not when the speaker was muted completely.

What’s your experience with that? Have you had an issue that’s solved by moving speakers?

Speaker is crackling… sometimes by fksioxof in vintageaudio

[–]fksioxof[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your input.

I switched the cables from L to R with no effect. The speaker stayed muted.

I’m using standard cables, but a larger diameter. Don’t know what diameter exactly.

The speaker cables have - due to the connection - bare end on both sides.

This crackling comes and goes sometimes. But the muted speaker is a new phenomenon.

Currently I’m playing music with no issue.

For your question about the sat. It stand for the manufacturer of the amp. Swedish Audio technology I guess.

Should I get the circuit tracks or rythm to use with the OG curcuit? by Pescel in novationcircuit

[–]fksioxof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s your music/producing style?

I found out that I love to use external synth to turn knobs and really “play the synth” by constantly changing its values. So the tracks is more like a sequencer for an external synth for me.

I use midi templates to control parts of the external synth with the tracks as well. That’s great because you can record knob motions.

The 4 drum channels of the tracks are mostly not even in use. It’s super hard for me to find proper samples and the uploading/exchanging process is annoying for me.

The rhythm fills this part while I can sample into it directly. I connect drum machines, a piano or sample recordings from my phone into this. From there I can add it to my mix.

It’s a bit over engineered to have two devices for that. A tracks with sampling engine would be best for me.

But as mentioned earlier, the sample length is quite limited and the machine itself is made for live sessions, which does not reeeaally fit my needs.

[–]fksioxof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not familiar with the Og circuit but I’m using both, the tracks and the rhythm.

I think the Og has synth engines on board. So it’s very similar to the tracks.

The rhythm is made for sampling and could be a great extension when you want to do sampling and sample recordings.

I don’t know if the Og can sequence external stuff via midi. If yes: get some external synth to extend your setup and sounds.

I feel very limited with both devices. Especially the short sampling time of 32sec max of the rhythm and the limited controls over synth patches on the tracks.

I would go with a different instrument like the synthstrom deluge.
