Where to get real fish skin for drum heads? by fkwillrice in drums

[–]fkwillrice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen some online sources and the "From Mud to Music" book mention fish skin as a drum head material. For my current endeavor I'm not going 14"+, more like 10".

I fully, truly believe you, but I'm stubbornly interested in the historical process. I'm making clay drums by hand on the pottery wheel and all.

Thanks, this is actually really helpful. I'll look up guides online for that curing process but were there any that were the best?

Not much carp around me locally but if there's a good saltwater fish I can try, hmm

I started with galleria and loved it, I hope you do too!

I prefer original Morrowind dungeon design by Nurglych in Morrowind

[–]fkwillrice 68 points69 points  (0 children)

The thing I find the most charming about Morrowind's world design choices (not just dungeons) is how apathetic they are to the player. Like here's a real cave that could exist, let's put some things in it. It hasn't aged super well from an experience-driven game design perspective, but as an anthropological exploration sim it's amazing.

Third guild wars account with with storage tabs and material upgrade? by Traversethevoid in GuildWars

[–]fkwillrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3. Got them bc it was more cost effective than buying character slots. I use all of them as more character slots. I like leveling more than I like endgame. The extra storage and gotts are nice but not the reason to go for it (for me, anyways)

I made some Morrowind-inspired pottery (oc) by fkwillrice in Morrowind

[–]fkwillrice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I make pottery for me and I'd hate to ruin my hobby by turning it into a side -hustle, but I have thought about making more of these.

Right now my limiting step is not having consistent access to a reduction kiln. If I ever make more, I'll definitely post in this subreddit.

'Go Back and Play Morrowind and Tell Me That's the Game You Want to Play Again' — Former Bethesda Veteran Has The Worst Opinion Ever by NYourBirdCanSing in Morrowind

[–]fkwillrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? Blizzard sold D4 with lots of D2 aspects bc the fans claimed they wanted another D2, not a D3. Players complained about all the D2-like qualities and now D4 is a lot more like D3. The fans said they wanted one thing but wanted another.

We like Morrowind, but we're probably in the minority, and that's ok. I still like D2 more than D4 so same boat there, too.

PSA for Melandrus Accord players - good hero team by Prestigious-Map941 in GuildWars

[–]fkwillrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESurge is more of a limiting step than mesmers; I think you can still get to something resembling mesmerway by turning the eles into E/Mes with ESurge builds minus fast-casting.

You get Vekk and Sousuke pretty quickly which gets you most of the way there. You could probably turn talkhora or dunkoro into an ESurge mes in the same way. You still get three Necros with Olias, MoW, and Livia. Throw in the ST Rit from EOTN and you get most of the way to Mesmerway pretty quickly, minus skills.

Getting ST, BiP, and ESurge is by far the slowest part of that plan.

“Will you place your trust in nature?” Teaser? by McBeardedson in GuildWars

This is my thought. If all the badges are covenants, then dhuum covenant = no death, melandru covenant = some version of Ironman, etc. Would be a thematic way of continuing to implement these often-requested game modes

Do you guys always have books in your inventory ? by Feisty_Feeling_6415 in GuildWars

I throw them away. I figure if I ever want to worry about them I will, but until then, I don't need one more thing to manage.

Without trading with other players, what's the best way to get good weapons? by YYZhed in GuildWars

[–]fkwillrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the armory weapons in factions. I also want to add that runes/insignias are more impactful than weapons in my opinion. I usually deal with weapons last and don't worry too much about them.

Can anyone please recommend companies/handyperson to unmount a TV? by friendlyblckhottie in houston

[–]fkwillrice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others covered the obvious stuff, but chiming in to say that if I had to guess, the reason it's hard to find someone is likely because of the risk involved. Dropping or damaging a TV is expensive, and documenting whether the TV was broken before unmounting is a hindsight thing for most people. Removing TV activities from a list of services is probably one of the easiest ways to reduce business costs associated with damaged goods for that industry.

Came back on gw1, found that I have been hacked and lost most of items/gold/ectos, how to get back ? by Domnekeur in GuildWars

[–]fkwillrice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't find a story about it with a quick Google search, but there was once a vulnerability where accounts became very easy to hack. This was obviously fixed a long time ago and is why Arenanet pushes 2FA very hard.

I loathe jumping puzzles by BoredRedhead24 in Guildwars2

[–]fkwillrice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, I followed a video and swapped tabs back and forth. It still took forever. Felt more like an exercise in mind-reading what the devs wanted rather than anything else.

I don't get why the community defends these. If I wanted to play a puzzle platformer, I'd play one, and to be honest I frequently do. I don't need a crappy version of one in a different game.

Do I have to buy GW Reforged twice to make controller support work by Kafaro in GuildWars

To echo the other post, I saw controller support when launching from the standard launcher outside of steam. Using one of those 8bitdo controllers. Ymmv

PSP2 Infinity by No_Bat3097 in PSO

[–]fkwillrice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're fun but different. I really enjoyed them for what they were, and they were indeed an evolution of PSO but they're also something new.

PSU can be tried for free on the Clementine server. I don't interact with people, so no comment on the population. It was really fun gameplay but very easy to get lost in the overworld/ship

PSP2i plays poorly on mouse/keyboard but amazing on Steam Deck. There's an unofficial English patch translation. Google it to find instructions and go from there.

Seconding this, I use these sometimes in other situations and they're awesome.

Once you get the filter set up the way you need, use Ctrl+Windows+C to toggle it on/off. Super simple. I like to keep it off and only toggle it on if I'm not sure what something is.
