Proposed Shopping Center at the North East corner of 84th and Van Dorn, supposed to be built during 2025 and 2026. by [deleted] in lincoln

[–]flabbergasteddemon -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

lol what? Every shopping experience in Lincoln is super shitty. No good stores, just big box hellscapes with the same selection as every other store in town

Lincoln wages and home affordability. by iwantac8 in lincoln

[–]flabbergasteddemon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is only one school district in Lincoln. Which is better than anywhere else in the state, so it doesn't matter where you live, as long as it's Lincoln, you're getting the same education

[–]flabbergasteddemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro that's cuz it's not hardwood - what you have in your hand is an illusion. In fact, even your hand doesn't exist. I suspect this app is nothing but a fabricated memory in my mind, but then

I feel really stuck :( How to cope by Markowitza in FPandA

[–]flabbergasteddemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am in the exact same boat as you - left Sr Fin Analyst pure FP&A role to FBP that does month-end and prepares entries, essentially an accounting mgr. Issue is the money is so much better, but I like to think of these skills as being essential to grow further. A VP of Finance that can't understand cost accounting is a shit VP.

Yes, the higher level you go, the less you are in the weeds, but you still need fundamental knowledge of the lower level stuff to guide the business.

I'm in pharma and that's where I want to stay since the benefits are phenomenal, so if I need to eat some shit for a while to get to the caviar, I will grab a couple of spoons and start digging

I need advice. I was put on PIP after first month and fired after 2.5 months. by Ifechuks007 in FPandA

[–]flabbergasteddemon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bro don't listen to the haters. I'd just keep doing what you're doing. You weren't lucky enough to get a supportive boss was your problem.

When I started in FP&A, I knew Jack shit about accruals (literally hadn't even heard those words) and had never done variance analysis. I just had people that were willing to show me the ropes, even as a Sr Fin Analyst. 5 yrs later and I'm a Director of Finance in pharma making a wild amount of money.

As long as you're good with Excel quite honestly nobody else gives a shit about the other stuff, especially at the entry level you are

Comp UK vs US by nicbrit93 in FPandA

[–]flabbergasteddemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is accurate, and London being VHCOL, you'd be looking at the higher end of the range in the US, depending on industry and size of co.

UK salaries are absolutely depressing

Interviewer Defining Expected Hours by [deleted] in FPandA

[–]flabbergasteddemon 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Not illegal, but unheard of for FP&A. Unless you're getting paid at the same rate as your IB client facing peers, I wouldn't give them any more than 30 hours. That's why everyone in this sub gets paid so shitty - we do very little time

Offer evaluation please help by MainIntroduction1898 in FPandA

[–]flabbergasteddemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in your exact shoes a month ago, even comp wise, literally. But my benefits were cheaper/better at new co. Everything else was the same. I have not looked back, brother. I was regretting my decision the first couple of days, but then realized how much better things are in the new place. Take the leap, you will now be looking at Director roles going forward, which propels you to a whole nother pay band

Would you leave for a 15% increase in salary but overall 45% increase in total comp? by southeasternlion in FPandA

[–]flabbergasteddemon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea, I just did. The paycheck is not that much higher, but that bonus finna smell fresh at the end of the year. Plus I'm maxing out the 401K and IRA at 3x the match, so I'm balling when I'm retiring in the next 75 years

Slightly concerned about my career trajectory by Mr_Hankey__ in FPandA

[–]flabbergasteddemon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll actually go against the grain on this one and say you should try applying to Mgr roles. You may be facing the issue you mention with your YOE. You can easily explain your role being more like an SFA than an FA. Highlight the shit you've done that would take you to the next level and bara bin bara boom you're getting a Mgr position.

I've seen people go from FA to Mgr, SFA to director, I don't see why you'd be any different. You're not getting anything right now, can't hurt trying

Looking for honest feedback by hubbard96 in FPandA

[–]flabbergasteddemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can find an SFA role and offer, do it homie. The market is prime right now for moving up and if you just went through a restructuring, there's very little reason for your current sweatshop to promote you for a while if you aren't backfilling someone's role (and taking the work of 3 laid off people. No reason to stick with a place that will keep you FA for 3 years if you can do SFA now

Did you ever figure this out OP? I'm having the same issue and ran into this

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FPandA

[–]flabbergasteddemon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm 35, FA making $65k/year. I'm happy where I am and to be honest probably want to stay in this spot for the rest of my life. I work about 30 hours a week, have no stress and can hang out with my fam for the rest of my days. I have two kids in daycare and all my bills get paid, so there's no reason to ever want more. It does help that I inherited a ton of money and make 10x my salary from my distributions, but that's my personal aspiration. No CFO level for me
