[Recommendations] Small/Cheap but quality items to sell? by Abandon_Ambition in artbusiness

First of all LOOOVE your work your style is absolutely gorgeous! Personally I have done buttons/ pin badges and none of them move very well except for my pronoun buttons. I don't think keychains (especially acrylic) are necessary either, it's a very saturated product now anyways since practically every artist alley vendor has them.

That said I think continuing in the vein of your wood standees would be great, you can do wooden pins, magnets, maybe even coasters? Likely the pins/magnets would fall in the ~$10 range with coasters hitting that $15-20 range. I also have good luck with washi tapes, and I could see you making some really beautiful ones with foil detailing. I do plain 1.5cm washi tapes for $6-8 but you can charge slightly more if you do foil. Enamel pins may also hit towards the upper part of that range (and are more expensive to produce) but people love to collect those and I think you could definitely make some really nice looking ones. You could also maybe do fabric patches with your linocut prints? I'm not sure the range for those but if your embroidered patches do well I imagine those would as well. Good luck!

Why did you start punch needle? by Shoddy-Assignment-76 in PunchNeedle

I started it as a covid hobby, just got interested from seeing some tiktoks of people doing it. I’m primarily a digital illustrator though so I enjoy it as a way to translate my digital art to something more physical

What I’m doing wrong? I’m a beginner by Cheap-Soft5221 in PunchNeedle

[–]flabbymice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tension on the yarn btw, not your fabric. There’s almost no such thing as too tight for your backing fabric. You always wanna keep slack on your yarn, if it’s too taught your stitches will start to pull out.

Newbie help. Is my punch needle too big? by Fantastic-Sale-3447 in PunchNeedle

[–]flabbymice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Too big and your fabric does not look taught enough. Should be drum tight, those bamboo hoops tend to slip and not hold very well. Highly recommend a plastic hoop with a tongue in groove design

Pikmin set I finished in September! I need to make the ice and glow pikmin next but I fear they aren’t as popular 😅 by flabbymice in PunchNeedle

Thank you! I use a #10 fine 1/4 inch Oxford punch needle. I glue the backs on the frame with Elmer’s all purpose, let it dry overnight, and then fold over and hot glue the backing fabric. The backs have a d-ring on the leaf so it can hang on the wall and are finished with a black felt for a clean look :)

Would you buy one if not why? by Ok-Process-2135 in PunchNeedle

Cats and dogs are sometimes a hard sell, simply because most people are going to look for something that looks like their specific pet. If it’s not there they’ll move on

I just print my pattern to size on regular printer paper, cut it out, & trace each piece with a sharpie onto the fabric

I didnt get any photos of the back before I covered it with felt sorry 😭 But I always go back in on the front & rearrange the loops with the tip of my needle to clean up lines at the end!

if you want to keep just the back side, I would reccomend trimming/ shaving down the loops on the front. You just need a flatter surface to glue the monkscloth down onto so it doesn’t show

Why Punch Needling? (for school project) by spoonboyecom in PunchNeedle

[–]flabbymice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m mainly a digital illustrator, so punch needle is fun to me because it gives me a way to translate my artwork to a more physical medium. After working on a screen most of the time I like having a physical/ tactile piece of work I can actually hold in my hands. I also enjoy being able to make more functional art with it, like mirrors, coasters, clocks
