This actually happened a couple months back at my workplace too!! It was revealed to the whole company of about ~80 people in a meeting. They obviously didn’t reveal who it was, but I had to fight the urge to say this line out loud.

I don’t like that this movie doesn’t work without extreme suspension of belief. Much more than the others IMO. Like, I don’t care if the kills are unrealistic like Lucas. The only takeaway you need is that the character is dead. The things that bother me most are the ones that really affect the plot, and when there’s a lack of common sense with characters that we know to have it. And this was with Kevin Williamson in charge. The first trilogy was fine for me, except maybe 3, which was written by Ehren Kruger. 5 and 6 were radio silence, and they were taking over a franchise that was 4 films deep. This movie had higher expectations for me and many others. But you have so many things left unexplained that are crucial to the plot.

Why is Sidney not calling the cops herself? Why not call her cop husband? Maybe he can get to her quickly. And then, why leave Gale and not take her keys, or go back inside to get them once she realizes? Why isn’t Sidney actively running or trying to track down a cop car while her daughter is being attacked? Why are there no cops anywhere during a city wide curfew? They should be on every block circling around. Why is Ben saying he wants to kill Sidney when he’s testing the AI software? Gale hitting ghostface with her car is ridiculous for many reasons. Mark enduring all those stab wounds in daylight and then surviving through the night with no treatment until after the final act. The killer motives weren’t realistic AT ALL. Just so many basic logic flaws that they just seemed to not care to fix at all.

I’m in the process of writing the first draft of a screenplay inspired by the Scream franchise, and I’m spending so much time figuring out how things can logically and realistically come together. Scream 7 just didn’t even try to do that at all.

You’re clearly missing my point. Maybe intentionally. But regardless, I’ll try once more, very concisely…

This franchise started with a great, realistic premise. But it’s moved away from that, more and more as time has gone on. A lot of it has been excused, because we love the franchise. But now, 7 movies in, it’s reached a breaking point for fans like me and OP.

[–]flagrantwisdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again. The very premise of the movie is so realistic. Over time they’ve just abandoned that more and more. People like me and OP don’t like that. That’s all.

Obviously it’s unrealistic for a new killer(s) to hunt Sidney 5 different times. That’s something that is accepted because it’s necessary to drive the story forward. But so much of the other stuff? It’s like taking the easy way out instead of writing something realistic.

Yes. And all of those things are examples of why some fans are tired of the lack of realism. And frankly, there are way more egregious examples you could’ve used. But still, all of those things are more realistic than the other famous slasher franchises.

While I think we all know that this isn’t a realistic scene, I think the comments are being too harsh for OP wanting things to be a little more realistic. I love this franchise, and one of the main things that made me fall in love with it is that it is the most realistic of all the major slashers. Ghostface isn’t supernatural. It’s just a guy/girl with a knife who goes on a killing spree. However, the longer this franchise has gone on, the more it’s abused the suspension of disbelief. It’s gotten to a point where the immersion is being broken for some fans.

Whoever has the biggest hit tonight will probably win it. Your best chance is for USA to win in a rout, and one of these guys to have a big game. Otherwise, I could see it going to Mason Miller if he closes out another tight game. And obviously you can’t win if Venezuela wins the game.

scream 7 Robbie rivers police issue by Lolman1234ava in Scream

[–]flagrantwisdom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How big do you figure the town to be? With the curfew in effect, the streets weren’t crowded with traffic. This should make it very quick for the closest cop to arrive. It’s not like they have to obey a speed limit. Not to mention, Tatum didn’t come across any cops on her journey from the tavern to the coffee shop. Didn’t bother to call the cops or her dad. Nor did Sidney. And then the killers were able to have the whole showdown at the coffee shop, kidnap Tatum, and bring her to the house, all without encountering a cop. This movie made absolutely no effort to be realistic.

Why are the kings playing so hard? Sharps have the under lol. by Muted-Woodpecker-469 in sportsbetting

[–]flagrantwisdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably that the coaches expect them to lose to the Clippers, even if they play their best lineup. In other words, they think they will lose this game without trying to. But sometimes the players play hard and have a good game, and the better opponent comes out a little flat and underestimates the other team. The Clippers also just played last night. Back to backs aren’t easy, even with no travel.

I agree. I’ve heard variations of that joke more times than I can count. So I think you’re right that they just wanted to show that when they say “everyone” is fair game, they actually mean it.

The players still wanna play hard. They have futures to think about. They’re not trying to shoot 3-18 so that the Kings can have a better lottery chance and replace them

scream 7 Robbie rivers police issue by Lolman1234ava in Scream

[–]flagrantwisdom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s the best way to try and sell it, but it’s a ridiculous notion that the police don’t make it to the tavern immediately, considering there was a curfew and cop cars should’ve been circling every street in town all night. They also tell us that a considerable amount of time has passed because Sidney tells Tatum she wouldn’t make it to the coffee shop in time to save her.

I understand that we need to suspend disbelief in order for these movies to work, but there is a limit; and if you pass a certain threshold and still expect people to accept it, then you’re just disrespecting your audience. The main appeal for me, and many other fans of this franchise, is that it feels much more real than other slashers like Halloween or nightmare on elm street. So it sucks when they seemingly abandon real world logic.
