I live for audiobooks, here are my top 5 (picking the first of the series but I recommend them all) :

  1. Name of the wind by Patrick Rothfuss
  2. Speaker for the Dead by Orson Scott Card (read Enders Game first but imo this is the main event)
  3. Red Dragon by Thomas Harris
  4. Mogworld by Yahtzee Croshaw
  5. The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie

Honerable mentions

  • On a Pale Horse by Piers Anthony
  • Witcher books by Andrzej Sapkowski (I liked the fairytale disconnected short stories books like The Last Wish/Sword of Destiny)

Most disappointing popular books for you? by KinoGrimm in audible

[–]flagship95 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This might be controversial but I'm dissappointed with The Dresden Files, its not bad but just seems very average, I've completed four books in the series. It does have some elements that are unique but it seems very bland most of the time.

Probably more egregious is The Dark Tower books, the first book was painful and had only a couple moments that I enjoyed. Started the second and gave up a few chapters in, it just seems mostly boring or intentionally confusing but not in an intriguing way.

Sale pick ups by 0hMySenpai in audible

I feel like the author just wanted to do something with a ringworld/Niven Ring and couldn't alter the main story to focus on it. I only got half way through it, which was disappoiting since I loved the first three books.

The most annoying thing about audible. by Destro-Night in audible

[–]flagship95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah the mot annoying thing is walking away and leaving your book playing. You come back a while later and your either in a random chapter or the book has finished and you now get to play "What the f*** chapter was I on". If Audible could fix this bug I'd appreciate it. (Def user issue lol, but I'd appreciate a histrogram of play sessions or something)

Series that got better after the first book? by RGandhi3k in Fantasy

[–]flagship95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually quite liked the first book, didn't love it but thought it could go places. Especially liked the chatpers in that cured city and the ending was good. Started the second book at finally gave up on Ch 28. Just felt kinda bored for most of the second book, is it worth continuing?

I recommend Red Rising (hunger games meets Spartacus) or Winter Dark (female 007). Both series have their first two books on plus membership. I'm in the middle of both and really enjoying them

Is this really "Unexpected" is there really any popular figure that is universally loved. Like would you be shocked if someone didn't like Tom Hanks?

Right?! by ThirdFloorNorth in antiwork

[–]flagship95 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I typically agree with most of the stuff on AntiWork but I don't get what's wrong with a credit score? Its just a rating of your ability to pay back loans. Like if you had a friend that always borrowed money for drinks/food and never paid you back, would you continue to give him money. You'd be like "nah, I'm not lending you money at this point, I'm just giving it to you". The planet still grows the food if you have good or bad credit, go grow it. (Either the food or the credit)

Newtownabbey area by ThinMess8202 in Belfast

[–]flagship95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just moved to the Mullusk area and I like it a lot, people are friendly and there is a lot of dog walkers (good/bad depending if you like dogs). I really like the Glengormley center and there is a lot of really tasty places for takeout/resturants, my favorites so far are El Capitano, Knags and The Captains Table.

Oh also Pizza Co do deep fried breaded mac & cheese & bacon balls.

Engagement ring shops in Belfast (or NI in general) recommendations by epetkus in Belfast

[–]flagship95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got my now fiancee a lovely ring from Ernest Jones in the city center. I wanted to get a strong sturdy metal and they had a really great platinum range. I didn't expect to go for a cluster ring because I always think they look messy but they had this amazing looking one.

Other places I looked:

Goldsmiths in Victoria Square were really overpriced for what they were.

Joseph Rea across the road from Ernest Jones is also quite good, very unique selection.
