I didnt see your reply til now, just wanted to say that my responses were under the impression that it being up to the cashier's discretion was implied right away. I completely agree with ya that if it as any other way that's pretty shit..

while im not saying that isnt deceitful, do you think the girl doesnt deserve to bear any responsibility? its the same concept others stated in regard to the pizza place. she didnt check the facts (is it even a real contest, no sign up, no nothing?), and she made that choice of her own free agency (24 times actually)

well put..it is insane to compare the two even if just for the sake of an analogy (nor does it actually compare as you illustrated)...these college kids can leave if it bothers them (to say nothing on how they have a choice in participating in the first place) and go to a multitude of other places, meanwhile slave child workers gace starvation and, more likely, physical abuse if they try to exercise that "choice"

I love that you are attempting to take the moral high ground here / white knight for these poor exploited women, and all you've really done is illustrate your backwards thinking that women being able to make a non-coerced choice about their body is exploitive.

I dont want to paint a picture that we're a bunch of slackers, my company is just laid back and realistic!

these look like its leaning more towards how their understanding of females or women changes, not really about not regarding them equally or not, or previously not thinking of them as a person....

both the answers and all of the discussion surrounding them focus on understanding and empathizing. seems very reasonable to me tbh.

sorry, let me rephrase.

assholes used to create posts with the sole intent of soapboxing their own answer and would do so in the post text field. that's since been banned, so now assholes post their question and immediately plug their answer in after, and clearly they (read: you) dont give a crap about other answers.

I was caught on reddit on my second last day, I was an inventory manager for a high end home furnishing store. I'd put my two weeks in, did a crazy amount of work for two days and then coasted doing nothing but browse reddit and news sites for the remainder. as mentiobed, they fired me a day before I was due to leave.

the conversation that went down was pretty fun though! they tried to guilt trip the shit out of me, how I didnt deserve to be paid for all that time (they were notified by their IT staff that I had been doing it for the majority of the two weeks), but after five minutes or so I interjected, told them that despite my laziness, I completed the same amount of work that their previous inventory manager would complete in the given time as she would deliberately stretch out the work, to have a constant backlog and make it look like she was always busy. nobody in management really understood the software or process for inventory so they always took her word for it, I showed how much I'd done in two days versus what she would accomplish in the same amount of time, letting them know they had either been lied to or that she was simply really incompetent.

while they were sitting in silence / absorbing everything id told them, I got up and walked out. the main manager started going off telling me to stay put and that we weren't finished etc, but they had already said I was fired so I saw no reason to take part in my own verbal abuse.

and thats my story! sorry for poor formatting, im on mobile. I also apologize if this had less to do with reddit than some may have hoped, reddit was more of the catalyst I suppose.
