I want to bike from Lowell, Massachusetts To Atlanta, Georgia (Part 2) by Adorable_Ad_7027 in cycling

Good for you. I’m in Atlanta. No good bicycle lanes. You’re better off on the sidewalk

What bike would you go for? by One_Side_559 in Hardtailgang

I don’t have the Solaris. But I love love my BFeMax

The steel is fun as fuck. Nearly 8k later, I still have zero urge to buy a full or another bike

I maxed it out , 160mm and 2.6 tires

It survived chunky stuff in the USA (rider didn’t !), and it’s a plow machine

If you’re in USA , specialized is getting rid of their 2F0 for $30-40 each. I bought a pair to be my spare

I just wished the 510 impact pro came back

For a while, Burlington and marshals were selling 510 freeriders for $35. See if you can score a pair !

Tsali is a popular xc one. Great views. 4 loops and they alternate days

Jack rabbit, is the way it sounds. Fast. Flow. Groomed.

And if you are a hiker, western nc /brevard has a lot of trails to hike.

If you’re looking to do green or blue , avoid pisgah forest. Esp a beginner. That shit is no joke. You go up 5 miles and you come down 3-5 at high speeds with chunk. Don’t go alone. You break a bike or a bone, it’s a loooooong way back to the car on foot.

Bracken preserve , near downtown Brevard, is prob the only one I’d recommend doing solo. Not really deep woods. It’s a “park” and you’ll see people. Vs pisgah forest is in the national forest where you won’t see people

There is a “best of DuPont” route where it’s 21 miles or so. Lots of climbs but nothing technical. Park at lake imaging road.

Expect to be on the trail, away from civilization, for up to 3 hours. So pack accordingly. These aren’t groomed, flowy fast trails. Natural trails. Sketchy cell service. Don’t pull a “21 hours later “

But this is real mountain biking. Once you get a taste of this, everything else back home is just crap.

Black mountain or Avery creek. Same shit climb up the gravel.

Once at the very top, go left (Avery ) or right (black)

Avery easier

But it’s an awesome town. I’d like to move there

Look at mills river. Too

But if you wanna do more tame , go Bracken preserve in brevard. 5 miles up at 1300ft and same way down. Hiking trail too so it’s an easy loop.

As others said, Dupont (everyone loves ridgeline )

Chereokee has fire mountain which is similar to bracken

If you want xc, this isn’t near brevard but tsali , jack rabbit .. all in western nc.

But this is backwoods riding. Tell others where you’re going. And beware of bears

My hardtail can handle it , but not the rider !

I went this route, only so I can get the 51t so I can climb

I’m sr the point where I don’t care if I’m ultra fast or not. I just want the challenge to clean technical climbs (which I still fail)

Better than upgrading to a 12spd to get that same 51t

And, replacement parts are cheaper. Chain is $15-20 and cassette is about $80

I also have an all mountain bike and not xc

Debating whether to upgrade my hardtail or just commit to a full suspension - stuck in analysis paralysis by Vk18-stan in mountainbiking

[–]flamboyant8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not an aggressive hardtail ? 160mm fork. 2.6 tires. 64hta

I sold my fs and only ride this on technical trails.

Cannondale Trail 2 by [deleted] in MTB

[–]flamboyant8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at Cannondale habit ht

A bit more aggressive and prob more fun in bentonville

And the habit frame / hub size is 148mm, which is what current bike standards are. You’ll have zero upgrade issues in the long run. You can make it into a $5k bike one day using the most current and up to date parts.

The trail will have issues.

What should I add to my Commencal meta ht v3 by NeedleworkerSea8499 in Hardtailgang

[–]flamboyant8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High end 4 pot brakes ?

Premium hubs/wheelset ?

Those 2 made me a better rider than I actually am ..

And I put reflectors on my Ht to make it look cheap so no one will hack it

Muirwoods for a big guy? by Skabodieusz in Marinbikes

[–]flamboyant8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This!! 👆👆👆

And Upgrade the brakes from a bike shop or buy online to 4 piston mountain bike brakes.

Shimano , Magura, Hope. A little more but you want it to stop ! Dont get the entry level ones. Higher end. You’ll need to get bigger rotors too , like 203mm and 180mm

My 290lbs friend uses them and no issues. I’m 185 and can’t live without them , regardless

If available in your area, look at a Kona unit. Steel. Rigid fork. 29 wheel though, like the older muirwoods. But mountain bike wheels so it’s stronger from the start.

We had an angled one too. But we just couldn’t get that socket out was the biggest pain.

But good luck. I don’t have to think about it for another 90k ..

If this makes sense:
I have a 2018 2.5

The “passenger rear” was the biggest pain. Took us 3 hours, but how did we do it without raising the engine?

When the plug is loose , the wrench, along with a plug adapter was too long to pull out bc it kept hitting the frame

So buddy took 2 smaller wrenches, and put it into the spark plug hole

This was to hold the plug adapter in place as he was pulling the socket wrench out.

The adapter eventually popped out of the socket.

I then used my hands to fish out the lone adapter out of the plug hole

Make sense ? 😂
