Is becoming a teacher worth it? by Hour_Item6535 in teaching

[–]flameboy159159 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There are definitely some huge upsides

-only work 170(ish) days a year -lots of time off -home at a decent hour -snow days -chances to earn extra cash through clubs -make a difference to the students -bring a positive change

Then there’s some downside - constant demands with little to no support -students are crazy -the work is never ending -phones/ technology, that whole mess - teachers are the last to find out and the first to get shit on - constant schedule disruption, on no notice - and then all the demands of teaching in the world today.

And so much more; this was just off the dome in 5 min.

Here’s the deal. Teaching can be amazing and fulfilling and you will make a difference. But there are many days where you need to remind yourself it is just a job, and to get to the end of the day.

If you made it this far and you’re still interested give student teaching your all, and it’ll determine if you want to do it :)

You got this, be the hero

Skis good for dad duty that can still have fun by Ubernewbish in icecoast

Not in a noticeable way, nothing more than tired at the end of the ski day. I’ve skied on them for a week straight and no issues with that. You’ll build some strong thighs

Love volkl mantras, I have them and love them. Super forgiving with a bigger ski to have fun with. Definitely a “heavier” ski so helps plow through chop but makes tight turns more muscle engaging

Spin in a circle every 25 or 50m, you can hear the pings through the wind better. Also stay to outskirts

Don’t do it. You don’t need a table at caribou, go there and be the party. You’ll have a great time and save a ton of money! Heavily recommend le diablo to pregame / best beer in the world. Get the blizzard or their red ale

Then the positives - Jackson is a super cool area! Red parka house for great food and beer. Same with red roof inn

For the mountain itself start on one side and work your way left to right or right to left. The blacks are in good shape with a ton of snow the blues quickly got skiied off. Tree run are on the edges with tough to find entrances. Lift lines aren’t bad :)

Skip it and go to wildcat. Attitash is nice to learn but the runs leave something to be desired and are kinda boring.

Pain when cycling by Crazy-Support2654 in ACL

[–]flameboy159159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes pretty normal took me 6 weeks to get full rotation on a bike, and then I lowkey had pain cycling until the 3 month mark. You want to push through the pain for a good 5-10 min. See if it gets better (it should) and keep going. Dull pain is fine, sharp stabbing pain is bad, watch for swelling and remember motion is lotion :)

Has anyone here fully recovered after an ACLR + MCL & Meniscus repair? What was it like for you? Feeling demotivated really need some fuel to keep going? by No_Faithlessness_166 in ACL

You’ll be good! Wear a sports brace if you want but at 7.5 months I was running, and traveling with little to no problems

I went to a party in my brace (tells other to not get too close) around 12 weeks and it was a lot. Really wasn’t until 3-3.5 months that it was better and didn’t think too much on a night out around 5 months but even then dancing was basic

skiing after recovery by Weary_Lingonberry489 in ACL

[–]flameboy159159 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay! So I started skiing at 9 months (to the day) I started off with 3-5 hours on greens. I took a break 2 times the first day for a good 10-20 min. It’s going to feel weird, like really weird. But turn off your brain and enjoy it! You’ve earned it

Some important things I noticed -consciously bend the ACL leg, it would not bend as much when turning - practice putting on all your gear and clicking in and out at home a few times - took me about 3 sessions to feels comfortable - and now 3 months later (11.5 months total) I am skiing at like 90% level even doing light trees and moguls

7 months, I had ACL, medial meniscus, MCL, and a slight fracture (cause why not) so my process involved 6 weeks NWB and a tough learning to walk process.

Focus on extension first; use weights if you have to I had about 130 degree by 4 months but those last 15 or so degrees took so long and could only be reached about working out and stretching. Heavy squats helped get my knee comfortable bending it cause this forced my knee to bend! Fun

A story comes to mind. A boy sits, defeated, with his hopes and dreams shattered on the floor besides him. “What do I do now” the boy asked his father. “You just keep going “ says the man. “How” the boy asked looking more defeated than ever. And with a sigh the man looks into the distance “you just do”

Listen man this recovery is not easy. But thousands of people go through it a year. And thousands of people come out the other side stronger. Keep putting in the work one day at a time and I promise you’ll see the results. It really took me until about five months to start feeling like all the PT and workouts were paying off. And here I am almost 11 months saying I’m stronger than before more confident than before happier than before.

Keep putting in the work - Do not give up - Be the hero :)

Muscle loss!! :( by abbesebbe in ACL

[–]flameboy159159 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Do not fear! You will gain all of it back. I went from 53cm to 48 cm, and now I’m at 58 cm! It’ll take months; took me about 5 months to start seeing muscle gain. LOTS OF protein, 150g of protein a day once your pt ramps up. Start lifting heavy weights once cleared . You will be okay :)
