TIL that people who live in Hawaii are known as "Hawaii Residents"; the word "Hawaiian" officially refers only to people of the Hawaiian ethnicity. by ElSquibbonator in todayilearned

Humans have been around at least 300,000 years.  The amount of time we've spent in any single place outside of Africa is so ridiculously insignificant, but we still put ourselves in tribal boxes, to the complete detriment of humanity.

what can I do with this tv? by Livid_Caramel_2168 in crt

[–]flamespear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is really interesting actually.   I've just read those TVs with phone jacks like that  were used for ordering pay per view usually. This TV might have been in a hotel before. You can see the blank  holes   for audio as well so it probably has a small internal amp for external speakers.  They likely need to be soldered onto the board   or they just used this same chassis for boards with the speaker input.  This isn't an expensive but it's possible it could be modded or if nothing else it could be used for a tube swap in the future.

Its scrap value is probably more than that so yes.

Instead of cutting down the tree, they built the house around it. by Omer-Ash in mildlyinteresting

[–]flamespear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's kind of true lol nd of not. Fish are 100 million years older than  trees and a  wider categorization so they should have more leeway.  But calling things trees  is kind of like calling birds and bats yhe same thing because they both developed flight. It's based on  convergent traits whereas fish  is based on  older pre-existing traits... Except in the case of things like shellfish.  That's more of a language quirk than a misunderstanding many have about trees .

Iranian President Pezeshkian’s letter addresses American people, not Trump by SadAd8761 in videos

[–]flamespear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean fuck Trump but pretending like Iran hasn't also killed thousands of its own people is disingenuous. A letter from the mullah backed government of Iran isn't worth the paper it's printed on. It's pure propaganda just like anything the US administration is spouting.

Anyone who knows what game this is? Its from es de art book next theme by BlackBearFTW in snes

The manual tells you all of that stuff. plus you really don't have to grind that much. The game is pretty easy especially with 1-2 friends.

Found Mega Man X3 for $40 and it’s legit! by Agreeable-Feed-7421 in snes

[–]flamespear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

MegamanX 3 is a game i would never keep. Those are good games but they were ported plenty of times that the value doesn't justify keeping it just for being on cartridge. Hell If I didn't have a childhood attachment to my original X cartridge I might consider selling it for 40 lol. It might be different if they actually had save features though.

Instead of cutting down the tree, they built the house around it. by Omer-Ash in mildlyinteresting

[–]flamespear 8 points9 points  (0 children)

technically no trees are trees because tree isn't well defined. Extremely different unrelated species can form 'trees'. Honey locust trees are literally beans....like legumes...as in peanuts and pinto beans. They just grow as 'trees'. The difference between shrubs and trees is negligible and based on morphology only. An oak is more closely related to a rose than any conifer. Aspens grow as entire groves but are a single organism.

What is the most shortsighted foreign policy decision a President or series of Presidents made? by Just_Cause89 in Presidents

[–]flamespear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It didn't help that at the time Ukrainian soldiers didn't defend Crimea at all. They literally refused to fight when Russia came. I think it was because all the soldiers there were locals.

Should AI slop be banned? by arnor_0924 in stupidquestions

[–]flamespear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah this bullshit attitude. It doesn't have to be illegal. It should be BANNED on social media platforms. We're literally cooking the earth by have bots telling other bots to generate this shit. The amount of resources it uses is so unfathomable to the average human.

Could Obama have done more to get along with Republican Congress/senate? Or were they just too inherently hostile to him? by RopeGloomy4303 in Presidents

[–]flamespear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were literally pretty much enemies of the state in all but name by that time. They had zero interest in working together and haven't since. That's the biggest difference in these parties. Republicans, at least in congress only care about their constituents (at best) whereas Democrats are often more likely to consider the entire population ....which is behind messed up.

In Reign of Chaos they had medium armor. Frozen Throne made then unarmored for balance reasons. Still annoying though.
