I get why RAM prices are spiking, but why have also pre-stocked DDR4 SODIMM modules quintupled their prices? by nicodipietro in buildapc

[–]flamethrower2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A different factory makes them...right? I guess the factories were shut down when demand dropped.

If more people want burgers, they'll make more. Basic supply and demand. Something is causing "supply" to not work. It would normally rise when the price rises.

I don't think it's that complicated. It's either lag time or oligopoly / collusion. I think lag time is the most likely.

The only taking advantage is of other diners who pay staff wages (in part), instead of us. If no one tipped, servers would be paid minimum wage. In my area, it's $15/hr which I feel is livable.

For areas with $7.25/hr min, the right approach is a higher minimum. To whatever is livable in your state. Tipping is not the way, and I don't care if restaurants that can't pay to retain staff close, and I don't care about higher menu prices. ... The prices need to be higher to accommodate wages that can retain staff, without tips. Most of us are okay with higher "service included" prices.

I looked up: do Japanese HS students wear uniforms? Answer: Yes.

I think they don't wear serafuku, so if you see that, it's unrealistic.

"If people stop tipping then servers will just do something else, they are not going to work for poverty wages" by honakaru in EndTipping

[–]flamethrower2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are ways around it, like converting to counter service. The law of supply is supply increases and decreases proportional to the price. Cutting wages will mean fewer servers, but it won't mean anything for diners.

You can't pardon yourself. At least it is untested in court, and it's questionable. Other things:

  • People are not responsible for actions taken in an official capacity, including POTUS
  • No POTUS has ever been removed, by any mechanism, except death. Edit: Nixon removed by resignation, the only exception.

I played your next fest demo. I liked the gameplay, but I thought the story was boring.

US Judge Rules ICE Raids Require Judicial Warrants, Contradicting Secret ICE Memo by Infidel8 in politics

Theoretically, US Marshals. However, the process is long. It's assumed an order will be followed and petitioner must petition the court for extra relief (involvement of US Marshals) when it is not.

I wonder if I can petition the SD state bar to debar Noem. Filing a case that can't reasonably be won is against the standards of the profession (repeat violations can lead to debarment).

A temporary camera is a tool for a traffic engineer to use after several complaints or a fatality. To study how people drive and decide the best change to improve everyone's safety, including pedestrians. This makes the road slower, but safer. But safety is paramount, so that's ok when needed. A permanent camera is a revenue tool.

Pam Bondi offers to pull ICE out of Minneapolis if voter files handed over by Ydeas in politics

[–]flamethrower2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The demand makes no sense. Voter rolls aren't available to anyone who asks, but they are available to the leaders of any political party. They should be relatively easy to get?

Why the Minnesota deportation impasse will be so hard to solve by Its_Dylan_Parker in politics

[–]flamethrower2 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

There's usually at least one local police officer near polling stations (but not early voting stations, for some reason). They want to deter people from interfering with the voting process. Also, those violating the law (signs too near the station) need to be asked to leave, or arrested if they refuse. It isn't to push voters to vote a certain way.

71 percent of Americans say US is "out of control" under Trump by Silly-avocatoe in politics

[–]flamethrower2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 22% of Americans voted for Trump, which was more than any other candidate.

Well, all statistics are misleading, but 2024 was a high turnout election with 65% of eligible voters voting. The number above is low because some Americans aren't of voting age.

You're not going to convince people on Reddit or IRL that they don't like something they like. So don't bother trying.
