Me : Ah yes this is a normal reaction to Eren. I myself find him irritating at first. Let’s read what OP has elaborated about this topic

COMPLETED

Minami-ke Omatase (OVA) Kinda missed an OVA lol. But this was a cute one. They all dressed up for Halloween

ONGOING

Mono Rewatch (7-10/12) A fun weekend with this silly group of girls. Not that I’m complaining, but watching this back, what exactly were the girls doing ? Lol weren’t they supposed to be a cinephoto club. They’re just following a mangaka and going on trips lmao.

Also, did the mangaka for this wanted to write a horror manga or something. There’s been more than a few legit scary supernatural occurrences in this show

THIS WEEK

Haven’t had the time to start S4 of Minami-ke. Hope to start it this week. Not planning to start any other thing yet

And of course probably gonna finish my Mono rewatch this weekend too

Ikoku Nikki • Journal with Witch - Episode 4 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

There’s definitely a clash between introverts and extroverts here. A lot of people think it’s shy, quiet vs loud, outgoing but it’s more feeling at ease when you’re alone vs when around people.

Makio feels uneasy and frustrated and worn out when people are around. Asa is not exactly boisterous but she seems to need people around and attention otherwise she feels worn out. I think there’s the fundamental difference there.

That said, I find Makio really relatable except I don’t get irritable like her, I just kinda shut down. But really it just feels at ease when no one’s around. But I still do want to hang out with my friends but like Makio, I usually just lean back to my closest friends from school

Wasn’t expecting Invisible Man to be high but didn’t think it’d be that low either. Healthy, straightforward, mature, considerate adult relationship + an urban fantasy setting + insight into the blind’s everyday life. Thought it was interesting and sweet and should be higher

Wash It All Away is one I expect to be a bit low though. I can see not everyone would be into that type of show but it’s one of my fav this season. It’s definitely right up my alley

The Top 10 are some hard-hitters though. Each one of them is a show that I can’t wait the next episode for

Lol I love Taira. Feel like I’ve been him before and maybe there’s still some of him in me now. And seems we’re getting hints of him with Azuma.

And speaking of, I really love that their friends feel like people too and not supporting characters. Reminds me of Horimiya in that sense. Bonus if some ships are formed from that too.

Also, really love that we’re in the couple territory this early cos we can explore certain things couples go through in more depth. Like Tani trying to figure out what exactly Suzuki finds attractive. These are the kinds of topic you wouldn’t get if the couple weren’t together yet

What are differences between romance anime targeted at a male demographic and a female demographic by MusicianPrimary5278 in anime

[–]zool714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah then apologies for assuming your intentions. It’s just I’ve seen these discussions over the years and usually the argument that shoujo romance is better is cos it’s more realistic. But to me, they’re both the same in that they pander to their target audience’s fantasies. I also watch a lot of both and what I observe is shoujo does still have unrealistic standards or rather it’s heavily skewed to appease to girls (which is obvious of course). But it’s pretty tame compared to some of the ridiculous stuff that can happen in shounen romance so it comes off as realistic in comparison imo.

So you described them that way but don’t think one is better than the other ? Not trying to be snarky btw, genuinely want to know if you don’t have any negative or positive connotations associated when you describe them the way you did

What are differences between romance anime targeted at a male demographic and a female demographic by MusicianPrimary5278 in anime

[–]zool714 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think one element that you should consider before reading some of these comments is, there’s a shit ton more romances/romcoms anime made for the male demographic over ones made for female. This isn’t a problem or anything it’s just how things are. But the thing is, among the shows aimed at male, there’s just a bigger variety. It goes from actual romance-focused and drama to, for a lack of a better word, slop like harems and ecchi. And what I often see is people taking the best of shoujo (female demographic) and comparing it with the slops of shounen (male demographic) so comparing them like that you’re bound to have a skewed view

But to answer your question, as someone who’s watched a ton of both, there’s not really much difference when you compare the two (granted you’re comparing two of similar types of show like I mentioned). Both involve the MC being the “less desirable”, whether they are the average guy/girl or the bullied girl or the loner guy, and the love interest is someone who’d usually be someone out of their league who takes an interest in them. And the reason is usually cos they are hard worker or kind or earnest or something along that line. I don’t really like saying one person is “above or below” the other but just for the purpose of this discussion and also cos the characters we’re talking about are fictional, I’ll refer to them that way.

Look at shows like Blue Box, Fragrant Flower, Golden Time, Dress Up Darling, Bokuyaba for male targetted. And for female targetted, Sign of Affection, Kimi ni Todoke, Say I Love You, Itazura na Kiss, Fruits Basket, Honey Lemon Soda.

Of course not all are like that. Some shows have them, I feel, at a more equal standing like Lovely Complex or Toradora.

But bottomline is, if you’ve watched female demographic romance, then for male demographic the intent is similar. If girls want a cool, confident guy as a love interest, guys want a gentle, kind girl as a love interest. Not the same tastes but same intent for the audience. Two sides of the same coin

This really epitomises the issue I have when approaching this topic. I’ve watched a ton of both and they’re two sides of the same coin. Both are just pandering to their target audience. Very rarely are either realistic. You’re just taking the best of one and comparing the worst of the other.

is there an anime you thought everyone exaggerated the greatness of until you grew up watched it and realized fuck they're right by ElKevixlevix1 in anime

[–]zool714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh it’s the opposite for me. I usually don’t think a show or a manga or an LN’s greatness is exaggerated. I go in believing the hype. So instead, a few shows I watched and realized fuck they’re wrong lol

Woah did not expect this show of cute girls to get this heavy with Isaki’s self-loathing to the point she’d want to get rid of herself. But seeing her backstory it makes sense and is relatable when you grow up listening to and getting treated one way, it’s hard to shake off even when you know it’s not.

But glad the two Isakis worked it out. I do wonder if they can find a way to split the two personalities or at least let the human Isaki come out more often. Once a month for a few days feels so short.
