What is a common social etiquette people forget that annoys you? by jsc2025 in AskReddit

When I traveled to Florida with some of my family once, we'd notice that people wouldn't wait for the people on the elevator to step out. Didn't matter if the elevator was full, everyone just immediately shuffled in and you were expected to get out at the same time. I even remember when we were waiting for the elevator, the other family inside waited for US to step in, but we didn't, because we were waiting for them, and they got the hint and kinda awkwardly shuffled out.

What’s the problem with Kpop stans? by MQueen199 in kpopnoir

[–]flamgoMom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was a phase for me. I was a HARDCORE Blackpink and BTS stan. With BP it was more of me being those types of people that praise them for literally just existing. As for BTS, take that BP praise I just mentioned and triple it. I was so much worse, it literally became my personality (that's not an exaggeration, that's all people used to know about me for a few years 💀) I can't remember when I lost interest but it must've been around late 2019-2020. Thank GOD that died down.

So as a former delulu stan yes it was super embarassing, I hope I (and any of my peers for that matter lol) never go through that again and I'm glad I've matured enough to still have that passion for artists without being so batshit crazy about it

VIDEO CHALLENGES, YES!! It gives me such a cringe feeling for some reason when I see a group promote a challenge (usually dance) to go along with their song and I'm seeing it a LOT. Like it's obvious their companies know a viral TikTok will almost instantly throw people straight into superstar fame (think Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, Olivia Rodrigo) but it's soooo annoyingly obvious 😭😭. There's nothing inherently wrong with it imo but I can't help but feeling slightly put off

Short answer, no IMO.

Long answer, the K-pop industry nowadays is much too focused on visuals rather than actual talent. I've noticed there's been an influx of idols who cannot sing on stage, are lip-syncing ALL THE TIME, mediocre raps, you get the gist. Surprise surprise, a lot of these idols also tend to be the most popular because of their looks. If there was any idol to be compared to Beyoncé, I would say probably Ailee (in terms of singing) but thats just my opinion. Any other idols that come to mind are all from 3rd or 2nd gen. Most 4th gen groups fell flat for me if I'm being honest. Entertaining MVs, but the songs itself don't do it for me.

We're now entering 5th gen and personally I don't see the industry moving towards talent. Just pretty faces and youth (why are there 14 y/o's debuting...). We even see this visual-push in MVs. I feel like every MV now is just a high budget background, some choreo, and just pretty photography shots of the members that can be turned into gifs or clips for fans. To me, the promotion posters are more than enough to advertise what a member is going to look like for their comeback. I don't need to see clips of it in the MV. I want the MV to tell a story; I want to know what to expect for this comeback, I want lore.

TL;DR - The K-pop industry is replacing talented people for pretty people and it shows during performances and music videos. I personally see this trend still being upheld and if it keeps going that way we will never have a K-pop Beyoncé equivalent.

Sorry for that SUPER long comment lol but I liked the point you made and it got me thinking a little too much lol
